Budget for Maui
My husband and I will going to Maui in June and this will be our first trip there. I was wondering if anyone can help me with a general idea for a budget. We already have our airfare and hotel taken care of so we are trying to figure out a budget for spending money. We are not big spenders on souvenirs. We are not big spenders on food we are just regulars joes.We were thinking about one really nice dinner while there (since we will be celebrating our anniversary while there) and my husband wants to do a couple days of diving. Other then that we dont really have alot planned. We are renting a car and planning on doing some driving around for some sight seeing. We keep reading that Maui is very pricey. Is $2000 enough for a week? We are clueless on how to bring so any suggestions would be appreciated.

Jiffer, I can give you a list of some specific expenses we had on our 7-night anniversary trip to Maui in January.
A nice dinner with a nice view is about $35 for an entree, $10 for dessert, $10 for a fancy mixed drink. A casual dinner with no view is about $15 to $20 dollars for an entree. Casual order-at-the-counter lunch is about $7 for a fish or meat sandwich, plus more for drinks and fries, with no view. Breakfast can be $4 for a bagel with cream cheese and coffee, or a sit-down type breakfast for maybe $12 each. SHOWS: We loved the Feast at Lele in Lahaina, a gourmet 4-course Polynesian dinner plus show with dances plus food from Tahiti, New Zealand, Samoa, and Hawaii. We paid $65 each, which is a discounted price available with AAA Pleasant Hawaiian package tours. Full regular price is $95 each. We went to the Costco near the airport after we landed and got our rental car. There we bought sunscreen and a bunch of water bottles to last the week. Before you go back home stop at costco and buy some macadamia nuts/chocolates as souveneirs and gifts for family. They have the best prices. Hope this helps! Will you want to rent any snorkeling gear? We brought our own gear but I ended up renting a waist-belt-flotation device for about $2.50 an hour at our hotel. |
My husband and I honeymooned in Hawaii this past summer and spent 7 nights on Maui. I think $2000 is more than enough. We were in Hawaii for a total of 13 nights, and spent about $1500 for spending money (food, alcohol, souvenirs, etc...) We ate mostly casual dinners with maybe 2 expensive, really nice dinners. Maui is great -- you will love it!

Costco is great for candy, cookies and wine. ALso check out the Walmart near the airport for other souveniers.
For good food at a nice price, head over to Paia Fish Market for an Ono Burger. Yummy! Also, check www.chowhound.com for restaurant recommendations |
Thanks everyone for the great info. I think I can relax now.
