Cyanna, thanks for the tip. I went to AAA Carolinas (I'm a member there as well) and the Hertz rate was much higher. It is no doubt, the one way rental that is costing me big time. :-(

Picking a random Friday in October for pickup, I was quoted only $225 from the local Hertz near me in Alexandria, VA (a short cab ride from the Alexandria Amtrak stn) to San Angelo (RQ DRIVE, plus $35 off special, plus AAA code). You could train it to there to pick up from Baltimore.

I am actually leaving tomorrow. I saw there might be better rates in Oct., but that wasn't an option.

Oh, well. It's actually the Thursday/Friday pickup that gets the low rate. I was quoted the same price for this Thursday/Friday if you can delay your trip a couple days!

Dang! I had tried it with a Thurs. pick up and didn't get any better rate. I shoulda waited to book. I already picked up the car and it's loaded for the trip.
