budget accomadation......oahu.

are there any motels on oahu? there only appear to be expensive hotels(when converted to $n.z.) on the websites. we have had no problem staying in motels in our travels in the u.s.a. in the past.we are looking for something around $50 u.s. a night but it's not looking promising.

Hi Holly:

Since we live on oahu and due to our high cost of living, when we travel we also try to economize. We highly recommend home exchanging as a way to go, esp. if your times are flexible. Check homelink.org for some possibilities. We have exchanged four times, in France, Alaska, and Canada, and think it's a great way to go. Someday we'll get to Australia and New Zealand, most likely, home exchanging too.

You can also get reasonably inexpensive rentals in some Waikiki properties, but it's unlikely that any would come in at $50. $75 would be more realistic.

Holly, you are not going to get a hotel room for $50/night in Oahu.
It's an island = small land area; therefore, property is extremely expensive hence almost all lodging is high rise hotel rooms. Don't know of any that don't also charge daily extra to park a car. The cheapest but good quality hotel is:

http://www.enjoyhawaii.com/PropertyHtmls/OAM145T.HTM

If the above address does not work, use your favorite search engine and use the search words:

waikiki surf east

They have kitchenettes (excellent way to save money by eating breakfast in room, packing a lunch) and a pool; about 3 blocks from Waikiki Beach.

Here's one last website for you to check out:

http://www.A1vacations.com

Remember: Oahu is the name of the most visited island, Honolulu is its largest city, and Waikiki is Honolulu's most famous beach.

I got a hotel in Waikiki for $50 per night using priceline in April 2000. We stayed at the Sheraton Princess Kiualani which was across the street from Waikiki Beach. It was a great value for what we paid. The link below is helpful in figuring out what to bid.
http://pub4.ezboard.com/bpricelineandexpediabidding

We stayed at the Waikiki Beachcomber last march for 70 a night booked on the net. (special via the net only) It is right across the street from Duke's on the beach. Don Ho also performs nightly in the hotel.

Re: The YMCA. That was me! That was me! Go to http://centralymcahonolulu.org/accom...mmodations.htm

This particular YMCA is right across the street from Ala Moana Shopping Center and the beach. Plus I think you get to use their workout facilities while you stay there. Lots of bang for your buck.

I found a couple of recommendations on another travel site. The Royal Grove, a budget hotel, clean, nothing fancy and a favorite of senior citizens and the Hawaiiana Hotel, clean, good service. Do a google search on each one and you will find their web sites. The Manoa Valley B& B, located near the University of Hawaii is also a good value.

Just returned last week - stayed at the Aston Grand Hotel - cheap - $54 per night, but I'll warn you it'a a bit of a "dump" - we were to stay for 8 nights and I just couldn't stand it - very small - rooms do have a bar fridge and the location was across from the zoo. We then checked into the Waikiki Parkside $67 per night with a AAA card.
This was real nice - bar fridge and hot pot, pool and very, very clean - good location close to beach.
Also the YMCA was near us - we were thinking of staying there - it's reasonable and good location - I believe it was under $50 per night for 2 of us.

Holly: I forgot to mention that we had met some people who were staying at the Banana Bungalow - it's a hostel but you can also rent private and semi-private rooms - very reasonalbe. They people we met said it was OK to stay at and very central.

Holly,

We stayed at the Outrigger Hoboron (about 4 blocks from the beach) a few years ago for $50/nt. It has since changed names to OHANA Hoboron but they have a $69 special. go to Ohanahotels.com there are a lot pf properities to choose from. My only problem is that I'm not sure which ones are the newer ones. I do have faith though, in that chain.
Good luck!
