Bucks County PA B&Bs

Thanksgiving approaches and my SigO and I are heading to Bucks County for a big family shindig. Usually we crash at my mom's house, but my super-cheap brother and sister will be taking up all available beds at my mom's AND at my other sister's (who's recovering from treatments for a frightening recurrence of her cancer, but she's getting much better by the day).

So it's the B&B life for us. Two have been mentioned:

-- The Golden Plough Inn, Peddler's Village

-- Centre Bridge Inn, New Hope

Can anyone comment or offer additional suggestions? Thanks in advance, Fodorite buddies!!

I know there are several right on Main Street in New Hope. One is The Mansion. I see them in my travels but as far as a recommendation I would not be able to help. There is also the Inn at Philips Mill above New Hope a few miles. Lovely place. I know tripadvisor.com has some reviews. I think you would just want to decide if being in the hub of New Hope is for you, or a more isolated place it will be a gorgous time of the year nature wise which ever you choose. There is also Lambertville across the river. They have quite a few B&B's. The Golden Plough is another great location for shopping, in Lahaska.

That is helpful, diann. Thanks!

Anyone else...?

I've heard good things about Woolverton Inn in Stockton, NJ. It's a cute, very small town, but right across from Bucks County.

Check with the Centre Bridge that they can guarantee parking for you. According to what I found on the web, they have free but very limited parking. And parking can be tight in New Hope.

We stayed at the Mansion Inn in New Hope a few years ago and liked it. Their rooms were very nice. I don'y know if they are still there since the area had flooding reacently. The Mansion Inn served a delicious walnut French toast dish for breakfast. The rooms were on the expensive side, but they have very nice decorations and antiques. We ate dinner at the Logan Inn and really enjoyed their food for dinner. We had a banana flambe dessert that was great. I think we would try the rooms at The Logan Inn if we go again. Across the street from the Mansion Inn was a very good ice cream place with a delicious flavor called tree bark that had a maple cinnamon type taste. I hope you have a nice time.

I really like the Evermay. Have also stayed at the Black Bass, but not in several year, so I don't know what it's like inside anymore.

The Mansion is still there. I had lunch there a month ago. We had dinner last night at the Inn at Philips Mill.It remains a favorite of mine. The ambiance is wonderful, an old Country French Inn.

New Hope is up and running full stream. It was very crowded bumper to bumper traffic, even at 10 p.m. on the way home.

Hi rjw lgb ca!

I grew up in Bucks County and am familiar with both Peddlers Village and New Hope. Ive not stayed at any of the b&bs but I can say that both areas are cute. If I had to pick b/w these two areas Id choose New Hope but I dont think youll go wrong with either. I hope this helps!

Also, here is a link to some other accommodations in Bucks County (if you havent already seen this):

Quick update: Checked out B&Bs on a recent business trip to Philly. The Golden Plough and the Mansion were both on our short lists-- and then were booked the week of Thanksgiving.

My sister's health situation is still quite precarious, but very slowly improving (her actual cancer has seemingly stabilized-- the complications are the problem). But she will not be able to cook Thanksgiving dinner, so my mom, my SigO and I will be preparing all the sides and desserts-- at her house near Quakertown; therefore, we'll be staying at a Best Western in Quakertown.

Oh well.... Convenience wins out over Romance. Thanks to everyone for their input and good thoughts. Now to get a rental car...!

I've had great luck with Priceline rental cars. I've gotten a Hertz car both times I used it, once at ABE and once at PHL. The last time renting at PHL I saved about 40% off of the best rate I could get anywhere else. You can't pick the car company but it's going to be one of the big ones...and you can't change your reservation once booked, but you can save quite a bit of money that way.

Enjoy Quakertown! Have some Tastykakes for me.

Quakertown actually makes a pretty good base for traveling around the area. You can easily drive to historic Bethlehem (highly recommended) or New Hope or even to the big King of Prussia mall. A drive down Limeport Pike in Lower Milford township will take you past some handsome early 18th century stone farmhouses, some still sporting their hex signs.
Instead of or in addition to Tastykakes (nothing wrong with them, of course), try some of the more local specialties like Moravian cake and the absolutely fabulous donuts made by the PA Dutch baker at the Allentown Farmers Market at the fairgrounds in A-town. You could also try the chocolate licorice, potato rolls and dried beef from the various stands there. It's where many of us Dutchies picked up the supplies for our holiday meals for years.
The new Wegmans markets in the area are also great places for getting Thanksgiving fixins.
Best wishes for your sister's recovery.
