Lower Calf Creek Falls is a beautiful waterfall. However, it's quite long and not much shade until you get there.

I don't remember if you mentioned the age of the kids.

Willis Creek is a seldom visited real slot canyon. It's a very easy walk. The slots are each about 100 yards long and get taller the further you go. So do about 4 or 5. There's one spot you either climb down a little 6 foot waterfall or walk around it. But it's all a very level walk with a small stream in the middle.

The adventure is the drive there. A sandy dirt road with ruts in it. A few small hills and a few small curves. Since there were no other cars on the road I used both sides to pick good parts of the road.

At least now there's a sign at the parking lot.

I've never seen more than one or two people there. People here who have gone have all thought it was a good, fun stop.

It's just south of Cannonville just east of Bryce. There's a visitors center there so you can stop for instructions.

Myer,,, I've been meaning to ask you, what is your definition of a "real slot" canyon? And you cite Willis as one.... What canyon would you consider not a real slot?

I'm thinking my definition is different than yours, and I'm just curious... Have we had this discussion before?

I'm probably stressing that while it's seldom visited, it's real and very worth it if you want to see a slot canyon.

However, there is what is described as a slot canyon along Burr Rd. I stopped there and saw what appeared to be a slot canyon at the openning but it went nowhere. So after a few minutes of looking around we turned and went out.

I almost got the feeling it was a small cave that was open at the top.

I guess that's an unreal slot canyon.

Myer, the kids are 17 and 13. 17 yr old hurt his knee last week, so not sure how much he can push it. Willis Creek is on the wrong side of the park for our limited time. I think our next trip out West will just be in southern Utah. LOVE it there.

Is there a slot canyon on the NL/QG loop?

No slot canyons there.

Willis Creek is east of Bryce but Cannonville is under 30 minutes from Bryce.

Not very far.

Thanks Myer. I agree about the spot on the Burr trail. Someone said they visited it and I'm thinking to myself how did I miss it? I think the one on Burr trail is technically a slot canyon, it is just very! short. It is much like the Johnson and Jenny's Canyons in Snow Canyon.


4sharie, I believe the Wall street section of Navajo loop will give you the sense of a slot canyon even it is not really one. The narrow walls reaching up so high are amazing.
