bryce canyon accommodations

i'm considering visiting the park the start of october. the reviews i've been reading on ruby's (don't really want to pay that much and it's currently saying it's full) and bryce view motel are horrible. anywhere else someone could recommend. i don't mind driving 30-60 minutes to get to the park. i always enjoy a pool if available and otherwise, just want a clean, reasonably priced place for 2 nights. thanks.

Bryce is more or less in the middle of nowhere.

The best advice I can give you is to call Xanterra (don't bother with the web site as you want cancellations) several times a day until you hit a cancellation just before your call.

The best place is in-park.

I just reread the reviews of Bryce View Lodge, and while they're not terrific, they certainly aren't all horrible. We stayed there in June of 2006 and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. We didn't spend much time in our room, but it was clean and adequate for our needs, and a better value than Ruby's. (The motel consists of numerous two story buildings.)

Myer is correct. The best place to stay is in the park. Keep calling Xanterra for cancellations. I kept tabs on the website and picked up our reservation on line. You may luck out, particularly on a weekday.

Another option would be the town of Tropic.

We also stayed in the park - and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again - Ruby's seemed a little too chaotic for me - esp in the midst of all that gorgeous scenery! It was clean and serviceable...and we had both a nice supper and lunch in the dining room. try for the cancellations!

We recntly stayed in one of the Deluxe Cabins---only 100 yards from the rim. It was great!

I've never been to the Bryce View Inn but don't expect a view of Bryce Canyon. Not even the Bryce Lodge has a view of the canyon but it is the closest you will get. I agree the lodge is your best bet.

Stay in the town in Tropic, maybe 10 miles outside the park. There are a few hotels there which may be more available.

Stay in the park, stay in the park stay in the park. Several years ago we stayed in one of the cabins and though rustic, was fabulous. Nice cozy fireplace. Just yards from the rim. I highly recommend the mule ride down into the canyon. Fun, fun, fun. Hoodoos galore.

Have you had any "Dirty Monkeys" lately. Had some in Cabo at Easter; some were better than others!!

We spent two nights at Bryce View Lodge last October. Our room was very comfortable, and we were able to use the pool at Ruby's for free. It's about a mile from the park entrance, so if you can't get a room inside the park, it's a good option.
