Brooklyn (NYC) - New Years Eve?

Hi,

(Please ignore my earlier post)

My friends and I (mid-late 20's) in New York for New Years and were thinking about going to a place called the Brooklyn Social (in Brooklyn) for the evening, has anyone been there or heard of the place?

ideally we would like to spend the evening somewhere with locals rather than a tourist type bar, any recommendations?

Thanks

Not sure you need to go to Brooklyn though to spend the night with locals, but wouldn't begin to advise for your age group. I'd think the lower east side would have some places though.

You don't need to go to Brooklyn to spend the night with locals. Most bars on the Upper East Side and Upper West will be filled with primarily with locals.

One thing to consider is that many, though certainly not all, bars in this area make New Year's Eve a "Pay One Price." Many will have an open bar and food at some set price that probably starts at $50 a person (if not more.)

Another thing to consider about New Year's Eve is that getting a taxi can be a monumental challenge. Lots of people out and a major section of the city closed to traffic usually means cabs are few and far between.

If you're considering this place in Brooklyn, you might want to see what they have planned for New Year's Eve. It certainly wouldn't be unusual for a popular spot to sell tickets in advance and to limit the number of "walk-ups."

Thanks for replying to my post, I think we may now be reconsidering Brooklyn, everone we have spoken to since have mentioned the problem of getting home.

Any suggestions of places to go in Manhattan. When we visited NYC before for New Year we ended up in a bar in Alphabet City (on the corner of Avenue B I think), it played some fantastic music, so anywhere like that would be ideal.

Cheers!

Hi Maxine,

I am in the same boat as you. Mid-twenties looking for a place to hang out with a local crowd. Good Luck!
