I am saying in Brooklyn for 2 nights in early May. I would like to take a boat ride to see the Manhattan sky line and the Statue of Liberty. Are there any boats that would we could board from Brooklyn rather than going to Manhattan. We are staying near Sunset Park and plan to visit Brooklyn Heights area. Thanks Ann

The best views of Manhattan are the Promenade in Brooklyn Heights and the Staten Island ferry. Those cruises around the city are not worth the money or time. Be sure to try the Chinese food in Sunset Park, it is expensive and very good. Go to Pacifica for dim sum

The short answer is no. There are no cruises that depart from Brooklyn (at least none that I know of). You'll have to come into Manhattan to get a cruise, but there are some options in Lower Manhattan, so you don't necessarily have to go all the way up to the Circle Line terminal in Manhattan (which is closer to Times Square but on the far west side).

A nice walk is from the Governers Island ferry slip in Brooklyn to the area under the Brooklyn bridge. Ot take the ferry to Governors Island and from there the ferry to Manhattan. It will have wonderful views of the tip of Manhattan.

The ferries to and from Governor's Island are limited with none after 7 Pm and there are no ferries from Brooklyn during the week. Additionally the trsnsportation from Sunset Park is also limited.

BTW, I go to Sunset Park for my glasses, which cost about $70 a pair.No kidding. And you can get them in an hour. Fashionable

If your timing works with Governor's Island accessibility, you should check it out. Views and surroundings are marvelous.

I'm afraid that your trip is a couple weeks too early to see the Glass Barge which will begin its journey at Brooklyn Bridge Park after May 17. See my thread on the subject if you can stay longer in New York State.

Thank you all for your input. I have never heard much about Governor 's Island and it looks very pretty. I have heard nothing but the best of the views from the Promenade which I will definitely check out. As for the Glass Barge- it won't see it in NYC however one is its stops- Little Falls is about a half an hour from my home so thanks for the heads up!

You have seen the view of Manhattan from the Promenade a thousand times in movies and TV shows. If you google it it will be very familar

Isn't there a bus that goes on 5th Ave. to the end of Atlantic Ave. near Brooklyn Bridge Park pier 6 where one can catch a ferry to Governors Island?

I can't say I have taken that bus to the ferry but that is not my idea of how to visit Brooklyn. The Promenade offers spectacular views of Manhattan, Brooklyn Heights is an historic neighborhood with wonderful residential architecture. There are very interesting restaurants in the area including a Yemeni, which is rare even in NYC. Many subways and you are not wasting time with buses and ferries. And as noted there are no ferries from BK to GI during the week and limited service on the weekends.

Let's keep this simple for a two day trip, out in Sunset Park, for someone who is not familair with the City.

For a first time visit to Brooklyn, I would not recommend a trip to Sheepshead Bay for Randazzo's. It is a fun throwback but it is a schlep to the Sheepehead Bay station and then about a 15 minute walk. This is from someone who lived in Sheepshead Bay for 15 years and grew up not far from there.
