Broadway Tickets

We are planning to use the Times Square TKTS booth for a Broadway show in August. We will be in NYC for nearly a week, and open to any night or matinee? What do people recommend for the best time to go to get the best seats? <BR><BR>We are not too particular about which show, probably musicals -- but not necessarily the hottest ticket in town, unless seats are available.

Oops I probably should have said that the time I was requesting is which day of the week is best to go to a show. Not the time of the day to go to the TKTS booth. Although that information might be helpful, also.

The best availability is early in the week (Monday and Tuesday). And, the choices diminish as the week goes by, with the weekend peformances offering the fewest options.

Also I would do the TKTS Booth downtown at the South St. Seaport. It opens earlier in the day and is alot less crowded and I believe it is inside Pier 17 so hot or rain you don't have to stand outside.<BR><BR>Yes earlier in the week is usually easier to get ticket, weekends for the hot shows are usually sold out, that said, tourism is down a bit, so it has been easier to get tickets and that trend will probably continue.<BR><BR>Have a great time while you are here.

Matinee tickets are for sale the day before at the sout st. seaport location. Get to the TKTS both (either location) about 1/2 hour before it opens. Even though the line may look long, once it opens the line moves very quickly. See www.curtainup.com/tkts.html for TKTS hours and other info.

Also, bring cash, the do not accept credit cards.

Thanks for the information, do they accept travelers checks? I noticed on one site it seemed to say that?

HowardR Mar 17th, 2003 03:44 PM

Yes, TKTS does accept travelers checks.

Do go to Playbill.com, Theatermania.com, broadwaybox.com, etc.<BR><BR>There are some terrific deals available, though sometimes not until 4-6 weeks ahead of your dates. You can get really good seats at 30-50% off usually. It's a good idea to check all three (and there are some others) and compare prices/seats available with that particular &quot;code&quot;. You can sign up for e-mail to be alerted of newly added discount codes.<BR><BR>When you go to the TKTS booth, you are really taking your chances. Sometimes you get lucky, but it's really better to book your seats ahead of time.

TKTS at South St Seaport is actually on John Street a block north of Pier 17...

What's the best way to get to the TKTS booth at Southport via subway?<BR><BR>We want to try to tickets for Sunday matinee 4/19 Easter weekend, yeah, right); can we go there on Saturday? My understanding is that you can get them there the day before.

On Easter Day, I would not assume much will be available for theatre. Also I would guess that some of the shows will be dark that night.<BR><BR>I would try to get something before you get here, if you want to see some theatre. Try the www.playbill.com site or www.ticketmaster.com for availability. That is one of the busiest weekends of the year in the city.<BR><BR>You might want to do the Easter Parade instead. That's on 5th Ave and it's closed to traffic that day and everyone just walks the avenue and windowshops and shows off their Easter finery, some interesting outfits too, lol.

The easist way to get to the South St. Seaport is to take the subway to either City Hall (#6) and walk from there, or take the (4,5) to Wall St and walk from there.
