Broadway ticket advice needed for this weekend Nov. 23
 

My daughter's in NYC on a last-minute-planned long weekend until Sunday. Her chef friend has made them dinner reservations every night, being in the industry, but my daughter would really like to see a play.

That leaves Saturday matinee. Looking over reviews and knowing her, I think she'd like After Midnight and Glass Menagerie. ( I would gladly skip meals all day and annoy my friends to see Mark Rylance as Olivia in 12th Night. There seem to be no matinees, though.)

Is their best bet the TKTS booth, or does anyone know an online good way to get reasonable tickets? She's a college student so can't afford top dollar.

Other suggestions? She's a dancer and has been in lots of classic plays. I doubt her friend would want anything too eggheady, so nothing too heavy.

There's a site called entertainment-link.com that features tix to Broadway plays at about face value. I've used them. The hitch is that you have to "join" the site for about $30 to become eligible to buy tix. I think the membership is good for a year.

Or there's stubhub or one of the other sites that sells tix. They have lots of tix, but you'll pay a premium for hard-to-get ones.

I don't know the popularity of the plays you mentioned, but TKTS doesn't seem to be the place for plays that sell out regularly. IME, the producers aren't going to let TKTS sell tix at discount prices when they know they can fill the seats at full price or higher. If you're set on using TKTS to get a cheap deal, go to the both with the idea that you'll take what you can get.

Hi, vincenzo. That site would be good I think if you lived nearby. It looks as if 6 months membership is currently $39. Two cheapest matinee $58 tickets there, including membership, total $180 including fees.

Cheap seats probably sound cheap to New Yorkers, but for someone out here in Flyoverland, who also goes to theater in London, the cheapest seats still sound like a lot. It's her money though and she's never been to a Broadway show.

Two Januarys ago when we saw Kevin Spacey as Richard III at BAM, my daughter and I had truly cheap seats and I wished I'd sprung for a little more.

Broadwaybox.com has good discounts.

Neither show available on broadwaybox, so prob not at TKTS either, huh? Well, she's the one who wants to see a Broadway show. I'll have her try ticketmaster then.

My partner saw After Midnight yesterday (loved it); he paid in the neighborhood of $40 for an orchestra seat from TDF.org.

Might be worth looking into if you qualify for membership and if you or your daughter will return to NY this year. After MIdnight is not on the current offerings list, but the list changes daily. MAybe there is something else she would like..

It turns out she can join TDF, as a full-time out of state undergrad, for only $12/year. (As an equally out of town not for profit employee, I would also qualify.)

There is a discount offer for After Midnight. Hopefully, there are still some tickets available. Call right away. Here are the details:

Call 877-250-2929 and give them the code PLAY1.
Orchestra and front mezzanine are $79 and rear mezzanine is $65. (Add a service charge of $7-7.50 per ticket.)

In the past I have reminded people that they should check BOTH broadwaybox.com and playbill.com for discount offers, since there regularly is a situation where the discount is offered on one site but not the other. This such a case, where playbill.com has the offer but not broadwaybox.com

PS: It's very doubtful that After Midnight tickets will be available at the TDF site for this weekend.
