Broadway Theatre Tickets

Hi

Will be in NY 19 Aug for a few days - where is the best place to get theatre tickets from at reduced prices - any tips?

Thanks

TKTS BOOTH located at 47th St. and Broadway. Opens at 3pm for evening performance tickets. Opens at 10 am on matinee days. Expect long lines at opening. Lines usuallly disappear after 5pm but ticket choice may be limited.
There is another TKTS booth at 2 World Trade Center. Booth opens at 11am. Matinee tickets at this booth can be purchased the day before. Credit cards are not accepted. Tickets are half price and there is a service charge ($2.50?)
Check www.playbill.com. Tickets for some shows are offered at reduced price.
A third option are theater discount coupons. You can find out which shows are available by checking at the Visitor's Center located on Broadway between 46th and 47th Streets (across street from TKTS booth. Check at information desk. Tickets are purchased at the theater box office.

skip broadway and see something at Lincoln center. The productions are much more thought out.

Yeah, Bob, but where's the half-price booth at Lincoln Center, as Stace wants discounted tickets. And while Lincoln Center companies are top-notch, it's apples and oranges to Broadway. Many people have good symphonies, ballet companies, etc. where they live, but no access to Broadway-style theater, especially musical theater. The local high school or community college production is not as, er, well thought out.

rqf is correct about the TKTS booth. (Yes, it is a $2.50 service charge over and above the half price.) I suggest you get in line about an hour before the booth opens to avoid the long lines. The time will pass quickly, as your sure to have interesting conversations with other standees!
There is a third option. Check on the Playbill website (www.playbill.com), join its club (it's free and it's not a gimmick). Then, you're eligible for discount tickets for some shows. While they are not half-price, you will not have to wait in line anywhere, as you can go right to the box office with the discount offer.
PS: Bob's comment is off base. Productions of equal quality (and non-quality, for that matter) are available on both Broadway and Lincoln Center.
