Broadway theater discounts
 

I mentioned on someone's earlier thread that there are codes that you can use to get Broadway tickets at a discount before you even come to NY. Here are some of them (i may run out of steam and add the rest later...)<BR>(BTW, they come from a booklet issued by Playbill, called "A Season of Savings".<BR><BR>Unless otherwise specified, discounts not good for Saturday night performances (and sometimes Friday night) but are valid until<BR>March 10, 2002. Most are orchestra or front mezz seats.<BR>For some you have to call Telecharge (i'll abbrev to TEL), others Ticketmaster (TIC)or use their websites. You will get a discounted rate, but, alas, still have to pay the dreaded service charge for buying on the phone!<BR><BR>TIC: all use code "ILNY" for phone orders, MILNY for online<BR><BR>AIDA $65 <BR>Beauty and the Beast $40 and $50<BR>45 seconds from Broadway $45<BR>Noises Off $59<BR>Rent $45 or $55<BR><BR><BR>TO BE CONTINUED..

A couple postscripts to the above information:<BR>1. If you phone for tickets, remember you're paying the $5.75-$6 surcharge for the phone reservation. (You avoid this payment by bringing the coupon to the box office when you arrive. Of course, in some instances, there may not be tickets available at that time!)<BR>2. Tickets for many of these shows are often readily available at the TKTS booth and, in some instances, for less money.<BR>3. The restaurant choices in the booklet are not that great!

one correction: The offer for Urinetown has already expired (January25).<BR><BR>As I had already noted, yes you do have to pay service charges when ordering through telecharge or ticketmaster, but at least you are getting a discounted rate with the convenience. Yes, most of these are available on TKTS but many people do not want to spend the limited amount of time they have in NYC waiting for tickets they may or may not get. This promotion seems like an excellent option. As for the prices being lower at TKTS, also true in a couple of cases, but not most. TKTS discounts seats by 50% (though only 25% for a few of them) but then adds a $3.00 surcharge to each ticket. Since for the most part they have and discount the most expensive seats, $45-$50 is right on target.<BR>As far as the restaurant discounts, though they aren't places I frequent, tourists might enjoy them.<BR>Hope some of you find this helpful.

Do you know whether there is a promotion for the showing of the Lion King? Does TKTS carry this show? Is there a special discount code through TEL or TIC? What would be the best way (and most inexpensive) to purchase these tickets?

I just got a postcard which I'm going to take advantage of - it's for "Metamorphoses" at Circle in the Square. $59.50 per ticket - call 212-947-8844 and use code MPDMX59. Must order by March 3 and the offer is good for performances from Feb. 21 (when they begin I guess) to March 28.<BR><BR>Friends saw it when it was off-Broadway and said it was wonderful.

I checked out http://www.nytix.com and read about the "starving artisits" tickets, has anybody out there actually been able to purchase these? Sounds like a great deal, just wondered if it was "to good to be true" and how exactly does one acquire them? Thanks for the good theater info - keep it coming!

Why bother topping this? Most of the discounts listed have long expired. If anyone has a new list it would be most appreciated.

Frank; THAT's the point of topping this! I was hoping that someone would update or add to the list. If I had started a new thread you probably would have bashed me for starting a topic that was already on here.

Agghh! $90 per ticket for Phantom. I am going with my family of four in July. any updated discount information !

The Convention & Visitors Centers in NYC might have discount coupons for Phantom, but you'll have to wait probably until June to find any for July. YOu can pick them up when you get to the city. I occasionally get mailings of these coupons.
