Broadway - The Producers or The Odd Couple?

Hi all,
A quick poll - I've booked a trip to NYC for the end of March and would love to see a show whilst we're there. I've shortlisted the 2 that we're most interested in - The Producers and The Odd Couple and would be interested to hear any feedback or recommendations from people who have seen the current productions.

Any recommendations welcome! Thanks.

Do you want to see a comedy or musical comedy ?

I've seen both.

"The Producers" hands down.

Have you checked into tickets for The Odd Couple? As far as I know, the run is totally sold out. But if you have a way to get tickets you're all set!

Enjoy! :)

The Producers.
Check Broadwaybox.com and Playbill.com for possible discount tickets.

Thanks everyone. TarheelsInNj - good point - I hadn't looked into ticket availability for the Odd Couple and you're right, it does look sold out.

The Producers it is then!

Thanks again.

I hvae not seen the Old Couple but I cannot fathom anything being as outrageous as the Producers. It spares no group, anyone is a "target", nothing is sacred! It is a wild, zany, zany ride!

The Odd Couple did sell out ages ago. I have seen both and I agree, The Producers is much more entertaining, probably even w/o Lane/Broderick.

Of your two options, The Producers.

But how about Barefoot in the Park?

Neopolitan Mar 9th, 2006 01:03 PM

Barefoot in the Park over either of the other two shows? You've got to be kidding. That production was skewered by the critics.

HowardR Mar 9th, 2006 01:03 PM

Barefoot in the Park can't compete with The Producers. It's not even close.

Gekko Mar 12th, 2006 09:22 AM

Are you kidding? Looking at Amanda Peet for 2 hours vs. looking at Hunter Foster??

Ummm...Amanda Peet.

(And, according to reports, the acting & pacing have dramatically improved since the initial reviews. But who cares? Amanda Peet!)

I'd pick The Producers - a fabulous show.

The Odd Couple, the movie, was more enjoyable for us than the stage play. We thought Lane and Broderick fine, but not all that impressive, in those roles, by comparison.

Neopolitan Mar 12th, 2006 02:20 PM

Well I guess if you go to a Broadway show to "look at" an actress for two hours, then it's hard for anyone to give good advice based on the concepts of "good theatre". Frankly I don't care what a person looks like, I enjoy seeing a good performance and a good production.

Let's see who would be prettier to look at for two hours? Sissy Spacek or Jessica Simpson? Which would I rather see in dramatic Broadway performance?

Gekko Mar 12th, 2006 04:38 PM

How enlightened! But what if the production is "Oh! Calcutta"? Still sweatin' for Ms. Spacek?

Relax, tough guy. Just a joke.

If I had to choose between Producers or Odd Couple, I'd definitely pick Producers. Lane and Broderick have become a parody of themselves.

But never, ever rule out Amanda Peet!

Gekko, I totally kwym.
DH drools over Amanda Peet.
And *who* is in a show (or movie)
DOES make a difference
to some people.

Depending on *who* is in a show
may be a deal breaker for DH.
So, if some think he's not
a *true fan*, we couldn't
care less:)

And to the OP,
The Producers hands down.
Awesome show.

Neopolitan Mar 12th, 2006 05:34 PM

Relax to you too, tough guy. You say yours was a joke and you can't see that mine was? Sissy Spacek? Jessica Simpson?
Come on now.

djkbooks Mar 12th, 2006 07:32 PM

<<Lane and Broderick have become a parody of themselves. >>

Brilliant!
