I, personally, loved the show Avenue Q. It's basically Sesame Street gone to R rated. There are songs about how "Everyone's a Little Bit Racist," and how "The Internet is for Porn." The lyrics are hilarious and witty. It's definitely a great show if you want a good laugh. See the synopsis here: http://www.avenueq.com/about.html .

I also enjoyed Wicked. Wicked is about the life of the wicked witch before Dorothy arrived in Oz. The musicality of the orchestral score is definitely one of the best.

We are down to four choices. Please help us pick a broadway show.
1. Jersey Boys
2. Apple Tree
3. Wicked
4. Kings Lear

We are most interested in Kings Lear and Jersey boys. However, I am getting conflicting info on Kings Lear. One site says we can get tickets for March 2nd or 3rd, another says it doesn't open until April. Also, what are the chances of getting discounted tickets for Jersey Boys? Between wicked and apple tree, which do you like best?
Thank you

You have NO chance of getting discounted tickets to Jersey Boys; and you might be able to get them through a broker at several times the actual ticket price.

On that same note, last-minute tickets to Wicked are unlikely in a normal price range. Availability may influence your decision!

King Lear is indeed playing on March 2,3 but tickets are evidently very hard to get. You'll pay dearly. There are some here http://www.stubhub.com/king-lear-tickets-new-york/

There's no chance of getting Jersey Boys tickets at discount and again, you could try for broker tix, but it won't be cheap. So by process of elimination, you're left with Wicked, also a hard ticket to get and Apple Tree which might be available on discount.

mommy106, given the 4 choices on your list, why isn't The Drowsy Chaperone an option? It won the Tony for best musical and is more enjoyable than Wicked & Jersey Boys, in my opinion (I haven't seen the other two).

I've found a couple of good places to get discounts and reviews. One is Playbill.com, and the other is signing up with the NYTimes.com theater site. Has anyone out their been to see The Pirate Queen yet? I'm not sure when it opens actually, but I'm traveling with teenage daughters and was thinking of seeing that and Curtains. We are from LA so we get the BIG shows that end up traveling (i.e. Wicked, Phantom, Jersey Boys).

Thanks

I have tickets to see The Pirate Queen, but not until April. I don't think it has started yet.

I saw Les Miz this weekend and I was a little disappointed. I saw it a few years ago and this one wasn't nearly as good.

We did end up seeing les mis, and it was unbelievable! They had several actor changes, which worried me, but they did an awesome job. I could have listened to the actress that played Fantine sing all night. She had an amazing voice.

I just love "Les Miz". I wanted to see the new show "Pirate Queen" until last night when I saw a PBS special & the music sounded just like "Les Miz".
