BROADWAY SEATS - WHICH ARE BETTER?
 

I have 2 boys, 12 & 10, plus myself and my husband and we want to see our first broadway show this summer. My options are: Peter & The Star Catcher @ Brooks Atkinson Theatre - Section Rear Mezz.. Row E, Seats 117-120 OR Spiderman @ Foxwoods Theatre - Section Orchestra, Row Y, Seats 112-115. Which should I choose? The Spiderman tickets are $20 more per ticket? I have no idea about either theatre and think my kids would like both shows. Thanks for the help!!!

1 more option: War Hore @ Lincoln Center - Right Orchestra Section; Row E; Seats 505-508. They are a little more than Spiderman.

Both sets of seats are in the center.

The Spiderman seats are on the main floor in the next-to-last row, which is 29 rows from the stage (because rows AA, BB, and CC, are in front of row A).

The Peter and the Stargazer seats are in the first row of the rear mezzanine. Row A of the front mezzanine overhangs row K of the orchestra. Thus, row E is about 20 rows from the stage and elevated to give a great view of the proceedings.

Considering that Peter and the Stargazer won this year's Tony Award, is in a smaller theater, and is $20 cheaper--those are the tickets I would buy.

I would think that War Horse - which is a drama with a lot of implications of violence would not be the best choice for kids that age.

Definitely would choose something less serious.

Spiderman will be an absolute hit with your boys and those seats are fine.

They'll be wanting to cry throughout War Horse.

Aren't the seats for Spiderman under the balcony--possibly obscuring overhead activity?

Just so you know a bit more about Peter, it's not a musical. It's a play that has some songs and would probably not be my first choice for a first broadway show for two tweens. It's a prequal to Peter Pan. It's funny and original, but in truth Spiderman is probably a bigger draw for kids.

One thing I'd worry about in Spiderman is that there is a lot of aerial work, so I"m not sure how visible that would be from the last row of the orchestra. But I've not seen the show nor would see the show, so I can't really give you any first-hand information.

By the way, you could probably get the same tickets at TKTS the day of the performance for half-price, so if you are paying more than that, I'd probably wait, especially if you are coming this summer. You can go to the TKTS booth at 5pm on the day of the show and can usually get out with tickets within 20 or 30 minutes, which is nice when it's really hot. But you will not have access to every show, and you might not get your first choice. Or you can buy tickets the day before a matinee (typically Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday) at the South Street Seaport booth. But those lines move much more slowly and are not really shaded, so it can be really hot.

I totally agree with all of Doug's advice. I, too, don't plan on seeing Spiderman, but of the shows you've mentioned, that one is definitely the best choice for your sons.

Are the seats marked as having a partially obstructed view? Call the theatre and ask if the balcony is obstructing the overhead activity.
