Broadway in July

Husband and I will spend several days in NYC and have tickets to 'Hairspray' and 'Long Day's Journey.' We will then pick up our 17-yr-old son and his friend for two days before heading home. I'm looking for suggestions for dramas that they might enjoy . . . I was looking at "Master Harold . . . and the Boys' but it appears that it may close mid-July. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Unfortunately, there's not much to choose from on Broadway. The only one that'll be playing is Take Me Out, which is about a gay baseball player coming out. It's won several awards and will probably take the Tony for best play. And, I don't think there's much off-Broadway that a couple male teenagers would enjoy.

PS: You and your husband will be seeing two of the best that Broadway has to offer. Long Day's Journey into Night is an experience you'll long remember. Vanessa Redgrave is extraordinary. (And Brian Dennehy, Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Robert Sean Leonard aren't too shabby either!)

Stomp
Just right for 17 yr olds. or older. or younger:)

I agree, Scarlett, but the original posting asked for dramas....and as good as Stomp would be, it ain't no drama!

What about "Rent" for the boys? Off Broadway they might like Avenue Q. It's moving to Broadway in July. You might like going to "Shakespeare in the Park".

Actually, we saw 'Stomp' touring company several years ago in Jacksonville. It's a great show, but we're really looking for a non-musical. Howard, anything likely to open between now and then, or do you think 'Master Harold' will last that long? Or 'Life X 3'?

Unfortunately, for your sake, the theater season is winding down. Not much opens between now and the fall. As for Life X 3, I'm not sure it'll be playing that long. However, I don't think the teenagers would find it too interesting.
How about Chicago, Cabaret or Rent? I think 17 is old enough for any of those.

Hi Pittsburgher,
I'm sorry :) I really skipped across your post and didn't read closely, missed that drama word~
Howard is such a sweetie, to tell me so nicely,LOL, so right, Stomp is not much of a drama:)

My experience is that 17 year old boys would rather be at Chelsea Pier than a Broadway Play.
