Broadway dramas for 15 YO
My 15yo daughter is a theater buff. She has seen musicals mostly, and now would like to see some dramas. She recently saw "Cymbeline" and liked it.
I am wondering about the suitability of "Homecoming" and "August Osage County" for her, in terms of holding her interest and content. I have only skimmed the reviews, because I never like to find out too much about the plots! But both seem to mention raciness. She has seen "Spring Awakening" and "Rent" several times, but has not seen much in the way of R movies (I guess I've been more lenient with the live theater). If you have any other shows to suggest, please let me know as well. thanks! |
I really liked "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee." Very, very funny show. Far more entertaining than I had expected it to be. There is maybe one part that could be described as racy, if you consider a song about a 13 year old boy's "reaction" to him noticing a girl for the first time.
Just make sure if you go, you do not get tickets for the one of the special R rated performances that are done occassionally. I believe they note that fact on their performance schedule. Not, sure about current dramas. But, you might want to check the Circle in the Square theater company for their performances. They've produced several good shows, though I not been to one in some time. |
thanks. we already have tickets to see Spelling Bee. Hope it's not the R-rated one! How do they let you know??
Forgot to mention that she is going to see "Speech and Debate" soon, too. |
actually, i thought Spelling Bee was a musical! Not sure why I thought that, but I guess I didn't pay too much attention.
|
oh, i see you said they note it on the performance schedule. never mind!

Hi Skatedancer,
Hope all is well with you. How about The Farnsworth Invention? It got decent reviews and the subject matter should be interesting for her? We're seeing Rock N'Roll on Sunday, don't know if it's age appropriate, but again a drama that follows communism from the 60's to the present. Again, maybe a good history lesson for her. Happy Holidays! |
You might think about the recently discoverd play by Mark Twain called "Is He Dead?" It's supposed to be very, very funny.
