Just saw "Death Takes a Holiday" & if you like musicals
(hello Neo!) this is a good one.

Sorry to make such an issue, TC, but I'm a little confused. So you're saying that despite these ear deafening speakers on the ceiling, (actually I'm pretty sure they are at the proscenium itself but high up) if you are in the orchestra, you'll hear the sound coming out of the actor's mouths and NOT the speakers? You're kidding, right? If anything the ear deafening music coming from above and behind you should be more distracting that directly at you from the general direction of the stage.

Meanwhile, row O is 5 rows under the mezzanine. I can assure you that will distort sound more than being in the open in the front of the mezzanine.

Rhea, I've heard nothing but good things about Death Takes a Holiday.

I saw a preview of "Master Class" with Tyne Daly on Sunday night. I enjoyed her performance a lot, and thought the rest of the cast (except for the first young woman) were also very convincing. I wasn't familiar with this play and knew very little about Maria Callas, so I don't know how accurate Ms. Daly's portrayal was. However, she's long been a favorite of mine because always finds the "truth" in all of her work, and this performance was no exception.

"you'll hear the sound coming out of the actor's mouths and not the speakers"

Yes. That is correct.

TC and NeoPatrick - Thanks for your input :-) - The concensus in the family was to go with the mezzanine seats (our orchestra front runner tickets got picked as we were looking at them together! I think I am with you Neopatrick - I would prefer to have to lean if needed than worry about a head in the way :-). I'm 5'11 and my husband is 6'2" (probably making us the heads you don't want to sit behind...!) but kids are 5' and 5'6". Which mezannine seats did you have Neo?

Tyne Daly gets a strong review in 'Master Class.'

We saw it last week in previews and were very entertained. I hadn't seen Tyne Daly in much prior, but thought she really captured the 'diva' persona so well. Good cast except for first soprano as stated in the review. Worth seeing! (And I had not seen the original or other revivals)

The film version of West Side Story will be in town a couple of times this summer.
