I've been waiting for a friend/co-worker to firm up her plans re visiting from NJ. I've missed some good ticket prices for shows (pre-Tonys). I know that it will all work out.

Good news for anyone wanting to see Byer & Cellar: It's been extended through January. As I've previously written, it's a highly entertaining show, with a fantastic Michael Urie.

It was reported that Barbra Streisand's manager was in the audience last night. Hmm. Wonder if he's previewing it before she attends -- if she ever does. Just curious.

Starrs, I hope you get to see Spiderman. Last night's show was cancelled half way through when another person got injured (stuck in a trap door on stage). And just last week they cancelled a performance due to technical issues.

Thinking about getting tickets for a Sept. Sunday matinee when we ware in town to Buyer and Cellar - my husband is a big babs fan... I on the other hand, am not... but I love the theater.

Momddtravel2, as I've said before, you don't have to be a fan of Streisand to enjoy the show. In fact, it's possible that not being a fan of hers may lead you to enjoy it even more!!

Also, as I've said before, the theater is in a great area for spending the day, especially if the weather cooperates! My wife and I spent a glorious day in the area when we saw the saw.

Patrick, I'd be very curious to learn Streisand's reaction to the sho if she sees it. Despite its satirical approach to her, she just might enjoy the show!

We won't have a lot of time that day - we have early dinner reservations so would be seeing the matinee - I am sure I would enjoy it - but know my husband would more :-)

As you plan your day, Momddtravel2, it might helpful to know that the show only runs 90-95 minutes.

I have tickets for Vanya and Kinky Boots. I'll fit in other shows as possible. I do have to work while I'm there (no vacation days yet) so I don't have full days to play. There's so much to see and do! Can't wait to be back in "my" city. One day I WILL live there, if only for a couple of years. ;)

Finally saw Kinky Boots. Just loved it, and can't believe how great Billy Porter is

I can honestly say I told you so....

yes, emd3, you did. I still can't believe how Kinky Boots had me fairly turned off by my reading all the blogs just before it opened and in early previews. I usually want to see almost everything, but nothing was making me want to see it that much.
But when the show opened and started getting more and more raves,(well except for the Matilda promoters who were doing their best to put down everything about Kinky Boots), the discounts had dried up and suddenly I wanted to see it. Then it won the Tony. This is perhaps the first Broadway musical in years I paid full price for, and it was worth every penny of the $147 price to sit second row mezzanine.

Kinky Boots ranks as one of my favorite theatre experiences ever. Usually I don't come away feeling like this about a show where the production itself (rather than the book and music) carries the day, but this show was different. (the music fit the show, but not one of those musicals where you come out remembering or humming particular tunes.)

We all had mixed feelings about Matilda. Didn't love it -- but very inventive staging and sets, acting was great.

To add to the list -- but go quickly, it closes in early September -- "Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812." It is off-Broadway. Apparently there's talk of moving it to Broadwy, but if you can get there now, I would because seeing it in this venue is critical to the experience. I don't think it will translate as well to a traditional theater setting.

I am so glad you gave it a chance and saw it and enjoyed it so much.. I wasn't excited about seeing it back when it had just opened either. i think the show has it all. And Billy Porter, who becomes his character, both the female and male. Cindy Lauper worked magic with the music.

OK, on June 24 I posted on this thread about the great new show Mothers and Sons we saw at Bucks County Playhouse, starring Tyne Daly. I predicted a Broadway opening -- and sure enough today it was announced. It will open on Broadway in spring 2014. Look for it!
Remember my last prediction before it opened on Broadway was Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike! Could I be right twice?

emd3, I did love the music for KB, but one complaint some have said is that the score just isn't very memorable, and you don't leaving humming any tunes. Well, while I really liked the music, I guess I have to agree with that assessment. After walking by other theatres after seeing Kinky Boots, all the way home and for the next two days I kept hearing both Book of Mormon and Pippin in my head, but honestly, probably couldn't hum much of anything from Kinky Boots -- not that I think that's all that important, but clearly it is to many people.

Saw a matinee today of Vanya andSonia,and Masha, and Spike. Was thrilled to se Julie White take over for Sigourney Weaver. She added so much to the role and the show.
Starrs and I met for lunch -- how fun -- before she headed off to Kinky Boots and I headed off to Vanya.

Who knew.....there's an Irish Theatre Festival off Broadway all during September..

Just saw a preview of "Big Fish". While it has some work to do in the next month, I think it has real potential. Wonderful sets, costumes and choreography. Hummable tunes. Strong cast, lead by Leo Norbert Butz. First half felt a little manic, but I think that will settle down over time.

I would recommend this one for a discount ticket. Mezz is the best seating to appreciate the effects.

Just saw The Machine at the Armory today. Great theater and only on until the 18th -- It's especially good if you play chess (which I don't) or knew what a computer was before the Internet!
