Broadway Banter? Fall 2016 - calling HowardR

My apologies if another one exists. If so, please top it!

HowardR, I'm looking for recommendations for the last week of October. I'm splurging for Hamilton tix, so will want to rely on TKTS or Broadway Box discounts for the other shows.

Have you seen anything recently that you just loved and can recommend?

HowardR Sep 27th, 2016 05:25 AM

You definitely must see The Humans. It deservedly won this year's Tony. Discount tickets are available at playbill.com. The discount code is HMPLY1215. And the phone number is 212-947-8844.
We had $69 (plus a $10.50 handling fee) for fairly good orchestra seats--row P, seats 13, 15 and 17. We could see fine.

The best orchestra or mezzanine seats with this offer are $99 plus the fee, while the mid-mezzanine seats are $49. Since the theater is not that large and you want to save money, the $49 should be fine.

Okay. That's what I wanted to know. Thanks! :-)

starrs Sep 29th, 2016 11:31 AM

HowardR, what are your thoughts about Front Page (in addition to)?

HowardR Sep 29th, 2016 05:33 PM

It's a golden oldie with a great cast. No reviews yet, since it doesn't officially open until October 20.

I've only found one limited discount offer. And there's only one performance--October 26-- that's during your visit. However, when you call, you might ask about any discounts for other performances. The discount code is FPTMC906. The phone number is the same as above: 212-947-8844.

Good luck.

I'm going to Humans next week, looking forward to it. And I got a ticket to American in Paris for the night before it closes. I didn't want to miss that as I love dance. I actually was considering just waiting for the touring show as those are usually pretty good and I didn't know the main actors anyway, but then I found out for some odd reason, the touring company isn't going to Washington DC where I live. So I booked a ticket fast.

My greatest anticipation currently is Falsettos which had its first preview last night. Have you ever seen it?

SueNYC Sep 30th, 2016 07:02 PM

Early warning for next February. I just saw Come From Away at the Ford's Theater in DC. Do not miss it when it arrives on Broadway in February. In fact, buy in advance once they start selling tickets or catch it in Toronto or Gander before it arrives here. It is superb!

HowardR Oct 1st, 2016 03:45 AM

Yes, Patrick, I did see Falsetto in a previous production and enjoyed it.

HowardR Oct 4th, 2016 02:27 PM

So, tell us, Starrs. what did you get tickets for?

starrs Oct 23rd, 2016 01:12 PM

I was at the TKTS booth and at the last minute I chose "Heisenberg".

It was wonderful. I loved it. Mary-Louise Parker was fabulous but I fell in love a little bit with Denis Arndt. I'd like to go right back and see it again.

I planned to see The Humans but at the last minute my NYC friend said he'd like to go on Tuesday. So...that's the plan.

I wandered a little bit and discovered a pocket park. Delightful. Wandered and took photos. As I was leaving a man with a goldendoodle came to the gate so I immediately sat down on a bench to get my dog fix (I miss my pups at home). We chatted for a while and then walked together for a while. Anyway, the reason I'm sharing that here...

Neo, his son is an understudy in the Falsettos so 8 times a week this nice dad spends his time finding things to do in the neighborhood. Patient man. :-)

So happy to be back here and picking out shows.

NeoPatrick Oct 23rd, 2016 02:02 PM

I saw Falsettos last Wednesday. Stephanie Block was out sick, but the standing ovation at the end was mainly for her second understudy (the first understudy was out sick also) -- Stephanie Uhmo. OMG, was she amazing. The whole show is emotional and wonderful. Maybe more so if you've ever known a gay man with a wife and child. Christian Borle and Andrew Rannells are wonderful.

I want to go to NYC after the first of the year.

any other must see suggestions?

Clousie Oct 24th, 2016 05:20 PM

I saw Pierre, Natasha and the Great Comet of 1812 yesterday in previews. Had seats on the stage which was great. I thought it was an amazing, creative production. Has anyone else seen it?

starrs Oct 26th, 2016 03:52 AM

THANK YOU!!!

Loved The Humans. Great seat, thanks to TKTS.

HowardR Oct 26th, 2016 06:20 AM

Starrs, I knew you'd love it!

SueNYC Oct 26th, 2016 12:07 PM

If you are here after February get your tickets to Come From Away NOW.

I had dinner with some NYC friends a couple of nights ago and the Broadway fan was disappointed with Falsettos. He loved the original production but did not like this one. I'm glad I stuck with The Humans.

I'd love to return for Bette in Hello, Dolly. I'd LOVE to hear Kristin Chenoweth's short run in November.
