Howard, You know my taste. I've seen them all. Saw ALNM with the original cast.

McLaurie, Oh that cinches it! I'm going to get a couple of tix for ITH. DH didn't see it with me and I know he'd love the show and especially with Miranda returning. I bet that is why I haven't seen any discount codes that are good past 12/24. Suppose I should jump on some full price tix.

HowardR Dec 11th, 2010 10:10 AM

TC, I'd get those tickets now. If there's no discount offer by now, there ain't gonna be one.....and I don't think you want to take the chance--and spend the time--at TKTS.
On second thought, what night are you talking about? If it's Tuesday or Wednesday, you just might find tickets at TKTS. If not, you'd still have time to go to the box office. I seriously doubt the show would be sold out.

TC Dec 11th, 2010 10:46 AM

Struggling with this decision, Howard. We would have to see ITH on Jan 7. Still lots of good seats available. No discounts after 12/24. However, lots of seats still at "premium" ($312) prices. I don't mind paying full price ($140), but why can't they at least let go the premium seats at full prices? I'm sure we've discussed this before, but why hold out center orchestra seats as "premium" when they can't sell the rest of the theater even at a discount and the show is closing early?

HowardR Dec 11th, 2010 12:16 PM

TC, for a Friday night, you might have to pay full price. For midweek, you'd have a good chance for a discount, but Friday? That's a tough call, even for January considering the fact that Miranda is back and the show is closing.

Howard - Many years ago, I saw PLP in concert and she was off; I think it was the same time she was getting poor reviews overseas. I LOVED her in Gypsy and saw Sweeney Todd too, but I didn't love the production, nothing to do with her. I didn't love Wicked btw.

TC - consider Brief Encounter if discounted.

CPG: Have you seen Time Stands Still? In my book, it is
one of the best plays I have seen this season; also closing
in January.

Centralparkgirl Dec 12th, 2010 09:30 AM

Rhea - how strong is the war component to the story?

Rhea58 Dec 12th, 2010 09:58 PM

Not as strong which I thought it would be after reading write-ups...more concentration is given to her need to go these
countries (whose names I cannot pronounce) and how that
affects her relationship. I don't want to give more of the
plot away but it is NOT a downer at all. I think you
would enjoy it. I was so surprised as I was there on a
rainy, very wind-blown Weds. matinee & it was almost SRO!

Centralparkgirl Dec 13th, 2010 04:50 AM

Thanks Rhea. If I can get a cheap seat, I'll try to see it. What did you think of her performance? I've always enjoyed her acting.

Rhea58 Dec 13th, 2010 12:34 PM

She was excellent - as always. Play is thru 1/3-/12.
Using code TSTM127 on theatermania.com you may purchase
tix @40.50/balc, 55.50/mezz & 73.50/orch.
Hope you do get a chance to see it!

Time Stands Still was one of the highlights of my month in NYC last Jan/Feb. The cast was great except I didn't care much for the younger woman who has now been replaced by Christina Ricci who should be wonderful in the role. Laura Linney gave a wonderful performance.

Yawn. Spider-Man opening is delayed again.
http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/20...delayed-again/

The lead producers of the new Broadway musical “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark” have decided again to delay its opening night, now scheduled for Jan. 11, until sometime in February

Note to Starrs (and anyone else who might be interested): We loved Million Dollar Quartet!

Finally saw Next to Normal this weekend and yes there's a reason it won a Pulitzer. Superb theatre. I am sorry it is closing. See it if you haven't. I hope it tours the hinterlands.

Almost time to start the winter thread. This one is WAY too long.

Centralparkgirl Dec 18th, 2010 11:37 AM

Thanks Sue.

I saw La Cage aux Folles last Saturday matinee. I was horrified to open my program and see that Douglas Hodge's understudy was going on for him. Although I saw Mr. Hodge do the role in London last year, I must say, his understudy gave him a real run for the money. He was fantastic. I still love this production over the original and the revival of a few years back. Both those made the nightclub some sort of huge Broadway spectacular. This production makes it kind of campy and sleazy and THAT'S what this nightclub should be. They also get much more humor out of it than the original Broadway production. Sometimes smaller IS better.

HowardR Dec 23rd, 2010 12:46 PM

Patrick, we have seen all three NY productions of La Cage Aux Folles and totally agree with you that the current one is the best.....by far!
