Bridge Cafe, NYC
 

I have read some favorable comments on this forum. We are thinking of having dinner there. Is it worth going to the area in the evening? Aside from the bridge, what else could we see/visit either before or after dinner?<BR><BR>We will be seeing The Crucible from 2PM - 5:00PM (approx). on a Sunday, and would then be leaving for the area of the Bridge Cafe for dinner.<BR><BR>Thanks.

CORRECTION...<BR><BR>We are thinking of a Sunday night, but after Elaine Stritch, which ends approx. 7:45PM. Would there still be anything to see in the Bridge Cafe area besides bars?<BR><BR>About how long by subway would it take to get from the theater district to Water St.? Or perhaps by taxi, as there should be plenty in the area after dropping people off for 8:00PM shows.<BR><BR>In case you haven't guessed, I am excited about the trip, and confusing myself more and more with all of the info that is available to me. Hi Nina,<BR>The Bridge Cafe is next to the South Street Seaport on the edge of the Wall Street/Financial District. It is 20 minutes by subway from Times Square/Theater District (downtown 1 or 2 train from times Square to the Fulton Street stop and then about 10 minute walk from there.) The area is more lively during the day than on a Sunday night. The restaurant is nice enough but it is a bit of a hike after the theater on a Sunday night (unless you are staying downtown and headed that direction anyway.) You might consider a restaurant more convenient to Midtown for after the theater.

Thanks John. We won't be in a hurry to get to a restaurant as we don't plan on eating until bout 9:00PM. We were just looking for an interesting place with good food. We are staying at the UWS, so of course that is not near the Bridge Cafe. Is it worth the trouble to getting there and back?

Hi Nina,<BR>If you're staying on the Upper West Side it will take you about 45 minutes by subway to get back from the Bridge Cafe or about 25 minutes and an approximate $15 taxi ride. If you really have your heart set on the Bridge Cafe then sure, go for it, but if you're just looking for a really nice restaurant then there are many, many more convenient choices.

Hi Nina:<BR>Bridge Cafe is a charming restaurant but I would definitely suggest it for a lunch/brunch. The area in the pm will probably be quiet. There is really not much to see in the evening in that area of town. In the daytime (in nice weather) the Bridge is fairly convenient to walking all over downtown (i.e, Seaport, Wall Street -in the other direction, Chinatown, Little Italy - if you are walkers - walk to SOHO and Greenwich Village. But again, I would suggest it for a daytime meal. I totally agree with John - there are many many other really good choices to make.<BR><BR>Judi
