Breckenridge July 4th weekend

I imagine this weekend is quite busy but do crowds disperse after the 4th - specially since it's on a Sunday? We're hoping to arrive on July 3rd late afternoon (we have potential lodging and plane tickets), enjoy the 4th in town and stay the following week to do rafting, hiking, biking, etc. but are worried others may be planning the same. It's not that we mind having a bunch of fun people around but we don't want to encounter long restaurants waits, booked rafting trips, excessive traffic, etc. Would we be better off forgoing Breckenridge's 4th activities and visiting the following week? We'd appreciate your input!

I definately think the crowds will taper off after the weekend. The mountain towns never seem busy to me during the week and you shouldn't have a problem with crowds or traffic. I love being in the mountains for the 4th. Not sure about the fireworks in Breck - but down the road in Frisco, they shoot them off over Dillon Reservoir and they are fabulous. You might check with the nearby rafting companies to see if they are booking up, but I really think you shouldn't have any issues. Come on out and have fun over the 4th!!

Thanks, SaltysMom, we think we'll chance it and celebrate the 4th in cooler temps!

It's Breck Bike week which I imagine my DS will be participating in at some time. Could be fun to watch, and could be crowded. I have no idea.

Hmmm, I checked out the website and I suppose we could run into a few extra people! Thanks for the heads-up, Gretchen. Has anyone experienced the event?
