Thanks, Fmpden. Good info! My husband grew up in Michigan, and we lived in the Chicago area for many years, so he is quite comfortable driving in snow. But always good to play it by ear! Thanks again.

Good for him. I have live here for 35 years, have four wheel drive vehicles, and I still am not comfortable driving in snow. I do it all the time but it is the other idiots that bother me.

Great trip to RMNP yesterday. We drove from Breckenridge to Estes Park along the Peak to Peak road. Breckenridge had a light dusting of snow when we woke up but there was no snow as we drove to RMNP. A few sprinkles of rain and two rainbows, but no snow.

Entering RMNP, we drove along Trail Ridge Road up to Rainbow Curve where the road was closed due to sleet and snow. Then we explored the other roads on the east side of the park. Beautiful landscapes wherever we looked. Then we "stumbled" across the elk and mule deer. Three herds of elk, some bugling, etc. We walked along a trail to view the largest herd of elk (50?) and watched them in a golden meadow for a long while. We also saw three groups of mule deer close up.

I am sharing this in case it is helpful to others considering a trip to RMNP when Trail Ridge Road is partially closed.

Heading to the west side of RMNP tomorrow. Looks like Trail Ridge Road may be open again, so we'll see how it goes.

Yes, thanks for the update. I was on I-70 returning from the Grand Canyon on Wednesday. We hit light snow on Vail Pass and I wondered if Trail Ridge was open.

The unsettled weather made for some dramatic and beautiful scenes along the entire drive, including an unusual double rainbow that was below us near Dillon.

Glad you are having a good trip.
