Breckenridge, CO - Great Divide Lodge
Hi, we're thinking about staying a night on our way to Aspen at the Great Divide Lodge in Breckenridge. The limited pictures on their website look quite nice, but I'd love some firsthand comments on the place if you've stayed there or at least seen it.

It looks to have a nice location almost right on the mountain, and the rooms look nice and big. True? What did you think?

Thanks for your comments.

Steph

I am in Breckenridge frequently, and there are tons of ads for Great Divide Lodge all over town, and in the Denver newspaper. It's a time-share place, and I wonder why they have to work so hard to get people to stay there. It looks nice enough from the outside, though, and is relatively new (a couple of years old, I think).

It's within walking distance of the base of Peak 9 of the Breckenridge Ski Resort, if you're going during the ski season. However, it is NOT within walking distance to the stores & restaurants of downtown Breckenridge, and due to its location, I'm not sure if there any nice views from anywhere at the Lodge. If you want to walk into town, consider the Village at Breckenridge. It's an older property, but their location is right off Main St., and on the other side, right next to a ski lift for access to the mountain. They have all different sizes of hotel rooms & condo units.

If you're only staying one night, especially if you're coming before the ski season, consider a bed and breakfast. They look cute, most (all?) are in Victorian-era homes, some have nice outdoor decks, and are right downtown. That being said, due to having young children & owning a place in Breck, I've never stayed in a B&B there, and I can't remember any of the names. Try brecknet.com; they may have them listed.

Lexma90, thanks SO much for that bit of information. I wouldn't have known that it wasn't near anything good. We too will be traveling with small children, so of course B&Bs are out, but I love the idea for someday...

I'll take another look at the Village. I was trying to avoid condos, just for a night, but may look again. Thanks!!

Steph

I live in CO and ski Breck every winnter. While it is not within walking distance to the village, the Breckenridge Lodge & Spa is a beautiful spot--it's up high and looks over the village and at the mountains. It is also nearby Boreas Pass, which has great trails for walking or is great to cross-country ski in winter and not to strenuous for flatlanders. You can bring kids there too. This definitely has the look and feel of a CO lodge and rooms are usually very nice, some with fireplaces.

Lisa, we've already looked into the Lodge and Spa and think it looks wonderful, but the rate is a little high for a one night stopover. It's actually my kind of place, ideal in my opinion, but a little expensive.

Is the Great Divide Lodge really a timeshare? I've checked their website again and see nothing to indicate that-?

Lexma, could you be thinking of the Grand Timber Lodge in Breckenridge that's a timeshare? Are you sure Great Divide is?

If you have a car check out Muggins Gulch Inn. A B&B surrounded by national forest. Wonderful place, but not on the shuttle route. Nice out door hot tub too. You will feel like you in the wilderness but only a couple of miles from town. I think they have web site

Any new insights on this hotel? I'm curious myself as to it's views or lack thereof and how nice it is.
Thanks! |
We just got back from CO. We spent one night in Breckenridge at the Main Street Station. It was beautiful. It was a brand new one bedroom condo that I got for $108 at snow.com. It had a full kitchen, fireplace, balcony and a huge bathroom. We wished we had stayed longer. There are several managing companies for this complex. Our condo was managed by Ski Village & Lodging.
