Breaux Bridge La trip report
Spent the weekend in Breaux Bridge near Lafayette La in the Country Charm B&B and I must say it was a big hit with 4 generations. The cottage is really a two br house and is very comfortable and the other accomodation is the barn loft with the king bed and jacuzzi.
Food in the area was a mixed success. Cafe des Amis for Zydeco breakfast was fabulous-- both food and music. Everybody dancing at 8:30am is different!! Mulates before the music starts was very bad for food and McGees in Henderson on the bayou was only good for fried catfish. We brought home boudin and other meats from Poche's Market But all the goodies including breakfast at the B&B made it a weekend to remember |

Since this posting we have spent two more weekends at the Country Charm B&B and we love this place. I didn't even mention the pond and ducks and you can fish. They added a suite in the barn.
Cafe Des Amis staff recognizes ny grandson!! Last time we did St Francesville-half hour away. Come see us in Fairhope!!! |
Hello, Fairhope.
We're renting a house at Fort Morgan for our daughter's 16th birthday. She and friends want to explore Fairhope. Can you recommmend shops, especially vintage/second-hand shops, that teenagers would like? Restaurants, etc.? We'll be there in two weeks. Many thanks. |
TTT
Fairhope, are you out there??? |
2nd hand-- shop at Goodwill in the Food World shopping center at the corner of Fairhope Ave and 98 (4 lane)--Emmy's at 564 Fairhope Ave--Second Edtion on Fairhope Ave right downtown(very upscale) and Sister ?? at Section and Morphy (new). Walk along Fairhope Ave, Section Street and Del a Mar downtown for shopping. A couple of stores down from Second edition is teen shop-Surf theme name??
Eat at Andre's or Sandra's (shrimp salad) or MaryAnn's deli--all downtown--all good. On your way in on 98 --you will see Los Tacos--genuine Mexican food Be sure to drive through downtown, downhill to the pier and rose garden. Sorry- but the pier is still under repair- to go back to Fort Morgan from Fairhope take the scenic route--take the road at the pier south(called Mobile ST or Scenic 98) for 8 miles south down the the bay--pass the Grand Hotel- and take the big curve on Scenic 98 east until you meet 98 -the road you came in on. Be sure to shop at Burris veggie Market in Robertsdale--check out the fruit pies in the snack shop I'll be out of pocket fron Sat to Sat so ask about anything you need now or the week before you come |
Down in Gulf Shores you teens will like Lulu's
|
Hit the wrong key!!
In Gulf Shores your teens will like Lulu's but it is very very busy and a big commercial operation now. The Pink Pony on the beach at the "T" is always a favorite with me or my guests. The Shrimp Basket is good. Out on Ft Morgan (and I've not been out there this season) the Beach Club restaurants are good |
The teen shop is called Adrenaline--also see Utopia shop across from Maryann's on Church; Private Gallery at Church and Fairhope
|
Thanks, Fairhope, for the scoop. We're looking forward to our visit.
I have read about Jimmy Buffet's sister's place, Lulu's. We'll give it a try along with the Pink Pony. Do you think it is faster/better to take the Dauphine Island ferry over to Fort Morgan or take 59 down? I always love the fruit/vegetable stands and would hate to miss them. Thanks again for your help. |
Take 59--there is now a Walmart in Gulf Shores at Ft Morgan Rd for your bulk food shopping. PS some guests ate at Mikees recently and were very unhappy. Roccos pizza is good
For you- if you are a coffee drinker try a Fairhope Float (ice cream) at Gene's Beans on De La Mare. I almost forgot--Panini Petes in the "French Quarter" shopping area in downtown Fairhope is our new favorite-great hot sandwiches/burgers. Pete was the executve Chef for the University of Alabama. He says his tuna sanwich is his best but i like his roast beef. I have seen teens in there eating burgers and fries. Page and Palette is a good bookstore/ coffee shop. You will like shopping at the Colony Shop--my wife tells me the discount rack is in the back and they treat you as well there as up front!! See you downtown!! |
Can't wait! Even the Gulf and Caribbean look clear at this point. Total Heaven after what we all went through the last year!
You've provided some great tips that we WILL take advantage of. Thanks! |
