Breakfast suggestions near the Hilton Riverside?
I'll be spending three nights in New Orleans at the Hilton Riverside. Breakfast isn't included in the room rate so I'll be looking for a nice place for a good cheap breakfast. I've been to New Orleans a couple of times, always staying near the French Quarter but different hotels each time. I don't really care for Cafe du Monde and beignets. I took a cooking class in the Riverwalk Marketplace (I think it was there) a few years ago - is there something better than your average mall food court there? Any suggestions worth a walk?

We were there last week and thought Johnny's Po-boy in the FQ was great - light, fluffy biscuits, excellent fried ham, eggs cooked perfectly. A bit of a dive, but very popular. It's on St. Louis Street (10 minute walk from the Hilton?). (We also ate at Mother's, an institution, but the food isn't particularly good).

Yeah, I remember a lunch at Mother's that was dreadful. This time I'll give Johnny's a try for breakfast because I love biscuits and dives are usually pretty interesting places.
I remember a very nice lunch at Muriel's and a great dinner at Mr. B's Bistro. I'm wondering if they're still good. It's been maybe five years since I was last in New Orleans - a lot can change. Thanks for your help. |
jahlie, you can find my trip report under my screen name ("Jazz Fest and More")....I mention every place we ate!
