Breakfast near NY Hilton
Staying at NY Hilton end of August, would like quick, inexpensive breakfast. Any ideas or suggestions. Thanks

On 7th. avenue and 57th street, try Lyndies(very good combo breakfast) and
on the other side of the sidewalk, Carnegie delicatessen but be carefull on this last adress : part of one is often enough for 2... Erik |
There's a Pick-a-Bagel on 57th and 7th (I believe). There is also a little cafe in the bottom of the Credit Lyonnaise building, next door to the Hilton. That's the building with the green, armless statues in front. I *think* it's called "Lou's" or something like that. Anyway, it has seating, it's like a diner. You can get anything there from eggs to a muffin. It is also a good place for a quick bite for lunch. Personally, I would avoid Lindy's as I think it's a ripoff.

Oh yeah, there are lots of delis and Au Bon Pain-type places near the Hilton. Just head up any of the side streets between 6th Ave and 5th Ave. 52nd has an Au Bon Pain and a Bread Market Cafe. Both will have bagels, muffins, coffee, but not cooked breakfast. A deli will have the same, plus eggs on a roll, etc.

stay away from chains like au bon pain and tourist traps like lindys. its a bit of a walk to 53rd and 3rd, but that's where you'll find ess-a-bagel, probably the best bagel place in the city. get a few bagels (my favorites include the oat bran bagel and the everything) with a schmear or egg, and take them down to bryant park by the library, or people watch in grand central station if it's too hot outside.

Either Ess-a-bagel or Pick-a-bagel. Both are really good and cheap.

We stayed at the NY Hilton last month and found a very nice grocery/deli just down the street that you might find handy for those quick, inexpensive breakfasts. The store is Edward Klein and it's at 1366 Sixth Ave, just one block down from the Hilton towards Central Park.
They have pastries, fruit, salads, sandwich fixings and such. You might want to pick up some items for a quick breakfast in your hotel room. We went to Lindy's and I agree with the other poster that it is overpriced. Have a great trip! |
Don't eat at Lou's. Over priced; scrambled eggs were underdone and NOT scrambled, coffee yuch.
I did like Prime Burger on 51st across from St. Patricks (would be on left side if you are facing the front of the cathedral). I had the vegetable omlet and it was something like $3.95. You can also get pancakes, french toast, burgers, etc. Looks like a place where the locals eat. |
The Astro Diner is on the corner of 6th Ave and 55th Street. It's okay for breakfast or a burger.
