Breakfast near Hyatt in Loop on Monday
 

My daughter and I are in chicago on the marathon weekend (10/10-10/13), but not to see the marathon. Mostly we are there to visit Univ. of Chicago.

I have tons of questions on the itinerary, but thought I'd start with the all-important goodbye breakfast question!!!

We are flying out early afternoon Monday, so I'm thinking we'll save Monday morning for a relaxing breakfast somewhere.

We are staying at the Hyatt in the Loop area and would like something close to the hotel. Good food is a must, but we could be open to anything from a slightly fancy feel to an excellent down-home diner, as long as the food is yummy and we are within walking distance from the Hyatt. i'd rather spend the time relaxing than commuting on the day we fly. Thanks, all!

We always eat at the Corner Bakery right across the street from the Hyatt.

Forgot to mention Lou Mitchell's--a short walk from the Hyatt. A diner type breakfast stop. Always a wait. They pass out doughnut holes to people waiting in line. When seated, they give you a box of milkduds and you finish with your breakfast they give you a small scoop of ice cream. A Chicago experience we enjoyed.

If I recall, you are staying at the Hyatt Regency, which is not really in the Loop. Lou Mitchell's would NOT be a short walk from the Hyatt, but it IS a Chicago institution. I wish I had somewhere to suggest, but offhand I can't think of a single nearby place that wouldn't be a chain or in a hotel.

Yes, the Hyatt Regency is located in the Loop.

The suggestion about the Corner Bakery is OK.

But I'd recommend going to the Fox & Obel Cafe. It's located at North Pier on E. Illinois, which is a couple of blocks west from Navy Pier.

On your way there, you would go over the Michigan Avenue Bridge, past the Tribune Tower. Take a few minutes to study all of the pieces of stone and famous structures embedded in its facade.

Oh yum! My vote also goes to Fox and Obel's.
