Breakfast In Stanford/Palo Alto

Heading up to San Fransco for the Thanksgiving weekend. Will fly and arrive at SFO 8:15 am on Friday 11/25. Any suggestions for a nice sit down breakfast near Palo Alto. Will be shopping all day at Stanford Mall...
Will be staying at Hyatt on Union square for 4 nights..any suggestions for casual dinners within walking of Hyatt...

1JAR, from Stanford Mall (aka shopping heaven) you're in luck for nearby bkfast. One place is right AT the mall, in front nr Bloomingdales-- Peninsula Creamery. (The original location is nr University AVe and has the old fashioned soda shop atmoshere--but food is equally good at either place.)

Also, right across El Camino from the Stanford Mall(max 5 min drive)at Town and Country Village "strip mall" is HOBEE'S!! Yummy breakfasts: egg dishes and delicious coffee cake.

Bon appetit and happy shopping!

This is my neck of the woods.

Best breakfast is Joanie's Cafe on California St. Small and nuthin fancy, but YUMMY.

Peninsula Creamery in downtown Palo Alto. The one at Stanford is lousy (not sure if it is even open anymore). The food does not taste the same.

A short drive up in Woodside will take you to Bucks, a local institution. Great food and you are surrounded by the oddest collection of crap you have ever seen.

Buck's. "Where the deals are made". Used to be a time when the local Silicon Valley big-wigs and Venture Capitalists would strike deals over breakfast at Buck's, then return to their huge estates in Woodside and post messages on travel websites. Those days are waning...

The Stanford Mall is so great, love the Oakville Grocery there. Right next door is the California Cafe, we had a luncheon there for an elderly friend in June. Great food and nice ambiance! ***kim*** ((l))

Califonia Cafe is a nice place for lunch, but 1JAR was asking about breakfast places.

Casual dinners within walking distance of Union Square Hyatt....

Highly recommended - Scala's Bistro in the Sir Francis Drake Hotel at Powell and Sutter...a two block walk. (Across the street from Scala's is Sears Fine Food, for breakfast. But lines form on weekends.)

Max's, in the Maxwell Hotel, on the corner of Geary and Mason...a three block walk; Kuleto's on Powell in the Villa Florence Hotel...a three block walk. I think New Joe's is still there, on Geary near Powell, in the Handlery Hotel, and right near maybe Lefty O'Douls, which has lots of atmosphere, but you choose your food from the steam table. Two blocks.

The Hyatt may have menus if you like to see what you are getting in for <grin>.

I would suggest you go to Hobee's for breakfast. I always had the BDBIT (best darn breakfast in town). The coffee cake is so good. I miss living in Northern California!

The Stanford California Cafe is closing very soon, which is unfortunate.

My pick for breakfast is the downtown Palo Alto Peninsula Creamery. It's only a couple minutes away from the Stanford Shopping Center.

We were recently at the Stanford Shopping Center. CA Cafe is no longer there...what a shock that somebody suggested it...ha! I'm not a breakfast person so can't recommend anything other than a cappuccino. However, for a casual dinner near Union Square, head to North Beach for some Italian.

Hobee's iced tea is something else. A little similar to Good Earth tea. Hobee's coffeecake is a meal in itself. Love the Scrambles on their menu. Majority of their food is identifiable on its own -- that is, not processed food.
