breakfast in SF
Any unique or special place to have breakfast in SF?

Mama's is fantastic.
Mama's on Washington Square 1701 Stockton St |
I agree. Mama's is so great. It's casual; you have to wait in a line outside before you gain entry, and then place an order that's brought to your table. But it's worth it, especially for pancakes and French toast. I also love getting dim sum. We always go to Ton Kiang on Geary but I know there is some debate about what place is best. And finally, 10 years ago or longer, we'd take visitors to the Carnelian Room at the top of the Bank of America building for Sunday champagne brunches. It was expensive, and good but not particularly special food, but the views were great. I'd be curious as to whether they still do a brunch. Does anyone know?

Another vote for Mama's. Last time we were in The City that's the only place we ate breakfast, but we stayed in between North Beach and Fisherman's Wharf.

We liked Sunday brunch at The Palace in their big atrium room. I remember the food being good and the surroundings beautiful. I also had brunch a few months back at the Fairmont. It was good as well.
What about that place on Powell Street...I will try and remember the name. Known for their pancakes. |
I think it might be a bit touristy, but I love the Buena Vista in Fisherman's Wharf. Their sourdough toast, made of baguettes, is amazing!

Dottie's True Blue Cafe on Jones (do a search for lots of recommendations) or Canteen on Sutter. If you are interested in venturing out and about, try Zazie's in Cole Valley, or Ella's on Presidio, or Tartine's in the Mission for great pastries.
