Breakfast-Hilton Hawaiian Village

Aloha,
I'm going to be staying at HHV for just one night before heading over to Kona. After flying from the east coast hours on end and a five hour time difference that I'll need to adjust to I don't think I'll want to go too far for breakfast.

The Hilton site lists several of their restaurants serving breakfast. Does anyone have a preference between Rainbow Lanai, Tapa Cafe or Tropics Bar & Beach Cafe? Cost? Quality? Ocean view/ambiance?

Are there any decent restaurants serving breakfast walking distance from the Hilton? I've always stayed on the other side of Waikiki but this time I'm trying something different, just to see what I think of the Hilton.

Mahalo for any suggestions!

I've not eaten at HHV but there are places to eat, including Starbucks and a couple of upscale restaurants (Merrimans/Roys) at the Kings' Shops across the street from there.

It's probably a 10min walk ...HHV is huge.

OK big mistake I just got up! I thought you meant the Hilton on the Big Island (Kona in the same sentence confused me LOL!)

I'm sorry connecticut lady please disregard my rambling and hopefully the Oahu experts will see your post later!

The Wailana Coffee Shoppe, across the street from the HHV, has a terrific breakfast, as well as serving the WORLD'S BEST coffee. Its' prices are very appealing also. It probably is one of the best places in Waikiki to eat any meal. It has a pretty good ambiance, not great but OK, and the service and food are great.

And the Wailana is open 24/7. Don't be dismayed if you see an out-the-door line. The place is much larger than it looks from outside, and you'll be seated in mere minutes.

Just had breakfast there yesterday morning before heading home to Kaua`i. Recommend it highly.

FYI -- they've got a bar too, which is usually open afternoons and evenings.

I agree with the above posts on the coffee shop. It's just kitty-corner from HHV and has very good breakfasts.

Thanks to all of you who responded.

Wailana is obviously the one to try, so that's what I'm planning to do -- the WORLD'S BEST coffee sure sounds like the right way to start my vacation.

Try the all-you-can-eat pancake special at Wailana. I've never been able to get more than one plate, but you get pancakes, I *think* bacon or sausage, and eggs for $6. And ask if Jo is working and if there's room in her section -- she's a lot of fun.

Connecticut Lady - I think you made a great choice in Picking The Hilton Hawaiian Village Hotel. Years ago when I lived in Hawaii (no, I am not telling you how many) I worked there and loved it. Have you stayed there before?

connecticut_lady Nov 2nd, 2005 02:48 PM

Madison,
No, haven't been there before, am trying it out to see if I want to stay there for future trips. I'm only going for one night, then heading over to the Big Island, also staying at Hilton there where I have stayed before and loved it.

Will attempt a trip report when I return.

MerryTravel,

Pancakes it is!!! (pancakes they are???)

Well whatever, I'm all set anticipating all I can eat pancakes along with a cup -- or two -- of the WORLD'S BEST coffee.

Thanks to you all, I love the way you can get such specific advice on FODORS.

connecticut lady:
I presume you already have your Tower selected, but if not, I recommend the Rainbow Tower. I has views all the way to Diamond Head!

Too bad you don't have time to go to Leonards for Malasada's! Address: 933 Kapahulu Ave. Phone 737-5591.
