Breakfast Buffets in NYC?
 

I have found lots of brunches on Sundays, but are there any good breakfast buffets that you would recommend? Nothing fancy, but we do really like omelet bars.

I've never seen a breakfast buffet in Manhattan.

Brunches are order off the menu and not buffet.

The only buffet I've been to in NYC is the Waldorf's Sunday Brunch...it's a pricey buffet but worth it!

Or maybe only in New York City? I know of at least one nice buffet brunch

There are a few but it isn't like most cities where most all hotels have a brunch buffet.

travelgirl, the only buffet the Waldorf serves is Mon-Fri. They don't serve the buffet on the weekends.

The grand buffet in Peacock Alley on Sunday's at the Waldorf will open back up in November (which I'm guessing you'll be there either during or after). It did close down a little while back but will open then. Their other restaurant Oscar's does serve a buffet 7 days a week and a la carte brunch on Sunday. Oscar's is nice but not as expensive as the Peacock Alley brunch. Enjoy your trip to NYC!

Buffets are not big in NYC. There is a previous thread on this topic here somehwere ;). Brasserie 8 1/2 does one on Sundays (or weekends) and some of the jazz/gospel brunch venues like BB Kings and maybe Iridium are buffet. You may find some of the hotels do buffets.

What is so special about buffets anyway? Quantity, I guess

I called and Oscars only serves the buffet Monday through Friday.

Forget buffets in NYC, the best brunch ever is the "Mariachi Brunch" at Chango in the Gramercy/Flatiron district. About $15 for a fantastic frittata or french toast, which includes all-you-can-drink mimosas (5 flavors) and bloody mary's, as well as an amazing bread basket with flavored butter. Also, the mariachi band plays fantastic background music. It's lots of fun and the atmosphere is great!

It's probably best that I don't do a buffet, but just to explain so you'll understand why it's something I enjoy...I'm a bodybuilder and doing a show in NYC on Saturday. Then we're taking a couple of days to sightsee, and let me just say that eating is going to be a big enjoyment for me after the show! :-)

Chefs choice tableside presentation all you can eat home made pasta. Insanely good, $21.95 per person.

Buffets are generally not popular in NYC - we prefer food to be fresh - not steam table laid out in advance - except for salad bars in delis.

Have never seen a buffet breakfast except at a private event - and would avoid it at all costs. Freshly cooked food is simply much better.

GoTravel - I'm assuming the show will wrap up between 10-11 p.m. Do you know if John's Pizza would be open that late by chance? I'm thinking pizza would be a good thing, not to mention I'll have all that goop on me and be in my sweats!

The Parker Meridien Hotel used to have a nice breakfast buffet. Might still.

You may be refering to Norma's at Le Parker Meridian. It's not a buffet. Pretty good brunch, a bit over the top, but quite good.

No, not Norma's. It was in a different space in the hotel.

There is a Crowne Plaza Hotel , Broadway at 49th St. I once met people for breakfast there, and they offered a pretty nice buffet, including omelets.

i often give nyc advice as i live her, but i find myself asking for suggestions this time! i thought i'd have a brunch for my 30th birthday this year. i've done brunch at the water club, wonderful! want it on the east side. but what about serendipity? any other good hotel suggestions? thanks!

Brasserie 8 12/ which I mentioned up above has one of the few buffet brunches if that's what you want. But if you liked the Water Club, how about trying the River Cafe in Brooklyn facing the NYC skyline? Very nice brunch.

Serendiptiy is more a family place with lots of kids. Not a 30th kind of place imo.

If you want a hotel, I'm sure any of the top ones do a decent brunch. Some like the one at the Waldorf. Cafe Botanica at the Essex House is nice.

It's Braserie <b>8 1/2</b> that has a buffet, Otto. The Brasserie is another rest. It's good but not imo special enough for a b'day celebration and it doesn't have a buffet.

The Kitano Hotel 66 Park Ave has breakfast buffets everyday!

If you want to chow down, maybe you can try lunch at Churrasceria Plataforma, an all-you-can-eat Brazilian place on West 49th Street. They open at noon and have a long buffet area with all kinds of salads, seafoods, etc, and also roving waiters with lots of cuts of meats. It's fun and lots of food.
