Breakfast and Dinner in Washington DC!

Hi

Very possibly staying at the Mayflower - but would prefer to stroll out for breakfast.

Is this going to be possible from this hotel - from what I can gather there are restaurants nearby, but what about breakfast?

Also regarding restaurants - in the evening we want to be able to stroll out and have only a 3-4 minute walk. Again will this be possible and will there be enough selection for 3 nights, to eat somewhere different each evening?

Many thanks.
You should have no problem at all... as far as breakfast, just head north on Connecticut Ave a couple of blocks and check out Luna Grill, one of my favorite cozy brunch spots. If you don't mind a longer walk (with great window shopping and people watching on the way), head up 18th street to Adams-Morgan and try The Diner. Or, for the best Sunday brunch in town, head just west of Dupont Circle (on P Street) and eat at Gabriel, in the Radisson Barcelo hotel. There are also plenty of cafes and such in the area if you just want a quick bite and some coffee in the morning.

For dinner, you will have way more options than you can possibly handle... depending on what cuisines you prefer, some of my favorites in that area are Spezie (Italian), Johnny's Half Shell (seafood), Kaz Sushi Bistro (sushi, obviously), Bacchus (middle eastern), Al Tiramisu (Italian), and Cafe Citron (Latin). There are also several very good steak houses in the area.

You should check out www.washingtonpost.com and visit their restaurant page - you can search under restaurants in Dupont Circle, Downtown and Adams-Morgan and find tons of options. Have fun!!

Are you committed to staying at Mayflower? from my understanding, its not in a good part of the city...you cenrtainly should not walk out at night.

I have to strongly disagree about the Mayflower not being in a safe area... not sure what the previous poster considers unsafe, or maybe is thinking of a different hotel, or has never been to DC??

The Mayflower is right on Connecticut Ave, a major, well-lit street with foot traffic at almost any hour. It's right between Dupont Circle and Downtown, both of which are safe areas. As in any big city, you should be conscious of your surroundings and exercise common sense, and as a female I generally avoid walking alone at night no matter where I am. But I have lived in DC my whole life and would feel as safe or safer around the Mayflower, day or night, as I would anywhere in the city. I suppose it depends where you're from and what you consider safe, but please don't let the previous posting discourage you from the Mayflower.

I don't know what the first reply is talking about. The Mayflower is in probably THE safest part of Washington. They also have a great breakfast in their nice restaurant, albeit a bit pricey.

Hiho - are you smoking crack? Maybe you & Marion Barry hit the pipe together... But I think Kristin is right - that you've never been to DC.

The Mayflower is beautiful and perfectly safe. There's absolutely no problem with walking around that area at night.

Re breakfast in the area around the Mayflower --- this is a lawyer/lobbyist/brokerage district so there are plenty of places where office workers get carryout breakfast and lunch, as well as pricey "power breakfast" restaurants. Not so may options for dinners or weekends (mostly the more expensive choices), but it is a safe and pleasant area with convenient transportation via Metro or taxi to anywhere in DC. Enjoy your stay.

Try the Corner Bakery for a light but delicious breakfast - also not expensive.
