I do enjoy a nice oil on some fresh warm bread, but butter is still my preference out of the two. In Europe I have not seen, in any of the restaurants that I have visited, oil on the table for bread.

I Montreal, where I am from, some restaurants put oil and balsamic vinegar on the table so that you can mix the 2 and dip your bread in the mixture...this is also really good but nothing beats butter :)

Aduchamp, are you saying you and your friends have never seen a bottle or little pitcher of olive oil on a restaurant table in Sicily? Or are you saying you've never seen it brought specifically for the bread? I fully understand the latter, but not the former.

A draught is an aliqot of fluid, like a draught (draft) of beer.

I think they would more likely be charging for water in a drought.

They have not seen olive oil for the sole purpose of accompanying bread
