Brazilian going to Alaska

I`m from Brazil and planning to go to Alaska in September.Lots of questions:

I`m scared of the cold weather.I read I should dress in layers but, exactly, like what? Well I`m from the tropics and not much experienced with that kind of cold.Maybe I could by a warm jacket in Anchorage?

Planning on going on a boat tour to the Kenai Fjords but I suffer from motion sickness and I am afraid of getting too sick to enjoy the trip.Do the boats have to go trought open sea to get to the fjords?Any other boat tour I could get, like inside of a bay? What about Ressureition bay?

Thank`s in advance for any help.
I like a sweater to keep me warm with a Gortex jacket over top to keep the wind and rain out. The jacket has a hood (keeping your head warm makes a big difference), can be tightened with Velcro and pull strings at all openings, and is extremely durable. It is also lightweight for easy carrying if you don't need to wear it. It can be folded or stuffed in a bag and come out looking reasonably good. Take some gloves too.

Melina, I too get seasick, even on those big cruise boats. I will be doing the Kenia Fjords cruise when I go there this month and I got this seasickness patch (brand name scopolamine) with a prescription from my doctor. There are pills one can buy here called dramamine or bonine without a doctor's prescription, but they make me drowsy; friends I know have no problem with dramamine/bonine . You can probably get similar medication in Brazil.
I will also be doing a Prince William sound cruise out of Whittier which I understand is not as rough-going, but this is mainly to see glaciers, not wildlife.

Oi, Melina! I agree that buying a warm jacket in Anchorage might be a good idea. I expect you could get one cheap at a discount store like a Wal-Mart or somewhere. If you're from someplace like Rio where it never gets cold, you might have trouble finding something appropriate in the local stores.

As for dressing in layers, a good idea would be t-shirt, sweater, jacket.

Boa viagem!
