Branson

What is there to do in Branson besides all the shows? Thinking about going in September.

The area around Branson is a beautiful part of the country.
Beaver Lake is a beautiful spot/ you can rent boats, fish, rent a cabin.
Also the town of Eureka Springs is fun-
we stayed at the Crescent Hotel- a historic hotel a little outside of town.
Just driving around the countryside is beautiful
But then you were asking what to do in Branson not outside of Branson so this may not be any help to you

Not "in" Branson, but Silver Dollar City just over the line in Arkansas is a fun county-fair kind of place.

Silver Dollar City is not in Arkansas but is just outside of Branson, towards Reeds Springs. It's a wonderful amusement park coupled with a display of Ozark culture and many very good music acts. Definitely spend a day there and pick up a daily schedule as you enter so you can get to all of the shows. Their annual crafts festival runs from Sept 13 to October 27 and features many outstanding artists.

SDC also owns the Branson Belle, which does a two-hour dinner and show--excellent quality entertainment. They also have Celebration City and a water park. Their website: http://www.silverdollarcity.com/

If you don't have a Bass Pro Shop where you live, you can drive into Springfield to see the original one.

Tons of stuff to do. If you are in to shopping, be sure to check out Branson Landing, the new upscale shopping/dining area right on Lake Taneycomo.

While the original Bass Pro is up the road about 45 minutes in Springfield, there is also on at Branson Landing now as well.

As mentioned previously, Silver Dollar City is a great theme park with tons of crafts and good food. Not your typical theme park by any stretch of the imagination. Since it's in the Ozarks, it is a little on the hilly side but, it's also very shaded in many spots in case you need to "rest a spell."

Table Rock Lake is one of the cleanest, clearest lakes you will ever find. and is just south and west of Branson. Depending on your budget, you could get a room at The Chateau on the Lake.

Hope you have a great trip.

I found an excellent suggestion on some posts from last summer. They suggested College of the Ozarks. It's a local college that is also known as Hard Work U. All of the students work on campus for their tuition. They have an excellent restaurant--by the way, the food in Branson is not much to write home about IMHO, so you might want to try this one.

They have a museum that they call the Smithsonian of the Midwest. I thought they had to be kidding, but it went on and on, and on, and on...the men get stuck on the floor with the HUGE display of guns and rifles.
