Boutique Hotels in CA
 

Looking for reasonably priced boutique hotels in Los Angeles, Monterey and San Francisco. Planning vacation weekend of July 17th and do not want to stay in large chain hotel, if we can help it.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

postmodern, you'll have to start by telling us what YOU think is reasonably priced (trust me, on this board, reasonable might range from $100 a night to $400 a night).

For San Francisco, try the Joie de Vivre group. All look very nice. We have stayed at the Hotel Rex, near Union Square, and can highly recommend it.

Another Fodorite recommended the Manhattan Beach Seaview Inn, in greater L.A., which also looks nice.

In the Carmel Highland's area, check out the Tickle Pink Inn, we stayed there last month for the second time. Very nice property with many nice amenities and special touches. Have a great trip! ***kim*** ((#))

I noticed a lot of the boutique hotels in the LA area are a lot cheaper if you wait to book the day before. I always find great deals at the Huntley Santa Monica. It is a gorgeous property. A little snobby though as all other boutique hotels. You may not be able to find a good deal on the weekends though.

Hello postmodern, stating what you wish to pay max for a hotel room (don't forget the hotel tax) will help Fodorites give you some good thoughts as each person's "reasonably priced" idea is so different.

The Monaco in San Francisco is a good choice, as is the Chancellor, which is right on Union Square, is smaller and has an excellent staff. For rates, etc. google them and look at their websites.

Hotel Rex, SF. We loved as did the 20 somethings we know, so it has cross-generational appeal.

Real funky..Andrews on Post Street.. have stayed there twice. great litle restaurant downstiars, Fino, glass a wine in the evening...fanastic breakfst buffet on each floor

I love Kimptons Hotels, we stayed at the Monaco in Portland Or a few times ( well, 30 nights in all but who is counting?) but I always thought I would like to try the Triton in SF.

I like all the Kimpton hotels. Have stayed at the Hotel Monaco as well as the Sir Francis Drake. The Argonaut looks beautiful as well. I think we may be at the Serrano next time. I booked the hotel Vintage Park in Seattle in late August and the Muse in NY as well. In San Diego, there is only one Kimpton and that is the Hotel Solara; it is gorgeous understated elegance and very well located. My other choice in San Diego is the Estancia or Hotel Estancia which is more southwestern santa fe style but also gorgeously elegant. You might check out their websites.

Hi postmodern, we just returned from another perfect stay at the Rex in SF! I don't know if you have booked your room yet--you probably have--but I just wanted to let you know that we loved the hotel even more than last year. Of course the fact that we were upgraded to an amazing suite certainly helped! We were only staying one night on our way to wine country, so that may have helped in getting us the upgrade, in so far as it would be costly to give such luxurious accommodations at the regular room price for a multi-night stay.
