Bourne or Sagamore Bridge This Weekend

Making a quick trip to Nantucket this weekend. I know there is repair work being done on the Sagamore Bridge. Will the delays be significant Saturday morning or Sunday afternoon? Would I be better off taking the Bourne?

Thanks.

A friend took the Sagamore Bridge home from the Cape last week or the week before and it added 2 hours to her normal journey time because of the repair work!

I haven't heard anything more recently but delays tend to end up affecting both bridges as drivers 'try' to avoid the delays.

Good luck and I hope someone has an up to date answer for you!

Thanks, I was afraid of that.

We went to Martha's Vineyard the first weekend in Oct. and went on the Bourne bridge and we didn't have any trouble or delays. Hope you have a good trip.

I thought I heard on the radio that the construction is fixed.

Yup. See here: http://www.capecodtoday.com/blogs/in...-on-th?blog=53

We live on the Cape and find the bridge work hit or miss, but it has to be done. It is far from done as mentioned by yk. I would take the Bourne and come up to the Sagamore from the rotary to get on Rt. 6. The far westbound lane is completely dug up and can't be used at all whether they are working or not.

If it is this weekend, you must also take into consideration from where you are coming. Traffic is usually quite heavy in region in general the weekend before Thanksgiving - so if you have to make a significant detour to get to Bourne, it might not be worth it.

Have a look at

And, you can phone for the latest information before leaving home, or as you approach if you have a cell phone.

Thanks all -- leaving in an hour and will try the Bourne.

Just a note --We used the Bourne both ways and had no delays. Leaving Hyannis we took 28 to 150, then 28 again. That may have added ten minutes or so to the trip, but if there was any traffic on the Sagamore, it would have taken much longer. As it happens, we never saw the Sagamore, so I don't know.

Agree with the Bourne. My grandmother just took the Sagamore and had delays on the way out. None on the way back on the Bourne.

Here's an update on the Sagamore Bridge (I am on the email update list):

CORPS TO OPEN ALL LANES OF TRAFFIC ON THE SAGAMORE BRIDGE STARTING MONDAY, NOVEMBER 23, 2009 AT 3 P.M. INSTEAD OF TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 24, 2009

The current Phase I of the Sagamore bridge repair work will be completed on November 23, 2009 (Monday). All lanes will be opened to traffic (two lanes in both directions) after 3:00 P.M. through the winter months. Weather dependent in late winter or early spring of 2010, work will resume on the Sagamore Bridge and again will require lane restrictions (one lane in each direction) until late spring of 2010.

So anyone travelling to the Cape after today should be okay until the work starts back up again.
