Boulder Canyon Road opening

The road between Boulder and Nederland is opening a couple of weeks before schedule; this will make travel to and from Estes Park much easier for many (and of course help out the folks in Nederland).
24 hours round the clock work; a terrific achievement!
Alas, the route between Denver and Boulder (US 36) is still a mess, with night closures and lane restrictions.

Sylvia, I drove 36 today both ways denver to boulder to CU. Isn't it a "mess" because it is being widened & yes this may take quite a while. But frankly, on my several trips to Boulder & back over the last month plus, the traffic has been much worse going through Denver. Perhaps it is because I am driving on the weekend but even on the flood weekend, 9/14 & 9/15, 36 was moving along very nicely. Today even the Central Valley was clear. Just pick your time to travel.

Daily commuters on 36 have had crummy traffic, and it will continue for quite a while due to construction; of course weekends are much better. (My son missed a cutoff time for a nightly closure and had to make a huge detour). I'd still recommend taking I70 to 119 (then 72 and 7)if your destination is Estes Park, and you are traveling from Denver, rather than Boulder Canyon (that is, 36 to the part of 119 that is Boulder Canyon).

I was on 36 on a Saturday morning two weeks ago and it was a crawl. I'm definitely avoiding it!

I don't think 36 between Denver and Boulder was damaged in the flooding. It is in a constant state of repair, it seems, though.

No one said there was flooding damage on 36; if it was inferred from my statement "36...a mess, with night closures and lane restrictions" I'm sorry.

Yes, I was taking off your headline on Boulder Canyon Road. Hwy 36 is business as usual-- which means construction somewhere on it. Haha

I wonder if Estes is really ready for visitors. My impression is that they are still very shy of resources. I could be wrong, but I'd check before going. Of course, RMNP is closed anyway (aaarrgh).
