Boston's Nine Zero
 

Any comments, good or bad, about Boston's Nine Zero hotel? It looks nice on their Web site, but just wondering if anyone had experienced it firsthand. Thanks!

Curious as I'd never heard of this place and looked at their site --- yes, it does look nice. Decent location, it's on Tremont St. between Park & Govt Ctr --- must be close to the King's Church? And Granary Burial Ground? It's fairly new, so I'd like to hear any feedback as well.<BR>

Nine Zero's Web site seems to tout it as an establishment geared toward business travelers; however, I wonder if it would provide more sophisticated accommodations for a leisurely vacation stay than the Marriott at Copley Place that I had originally been eyeing.

I walked by Nine Zero last week. It's definately in a great location. It's practically across the street from the Park St T station. I peeked in the lobby which looked very "pottery barnish". Certainly more "chic" than your average chain hotel. If either of you stay there, please report back as it is a new hotel.

I've walked by it a couple of times on my way to the State House. It's a great location for "downtown", and its basically across the street from the old cemetery. Looks like a very expensive boutique hotel.

Location is fabulous. Hotel is very slick, modern, and hi-tech enabled. Not my style (too antiseptic and "cool"), but would appeal to those who enjoy "the latest".

<BR><BR><BR><BR>Scoop: I happen to know that this hotel could be owned by Bill Gates. See end of msg for more info.<BR><BR>I stayed with my wife at Ninezero for three nights in early August. It is one of those new breeds of "trendy boutique" hotels.<BR><BR>The rooms are large and very well appointed: Frete sheets, large TV, CD player, minibar with "funky things" from jellybeans to condoms.... The bathrooms are smallish with no bath but with a large shower cubicle, floor to ceiling marble, big fluffy towels, robes and toiletries you will actually enjoy using (not the naff and smelly shampoo & stuff found in most hotels nowadays).<BR><BR>This hotel caters particularly well for the wired traveller: all rooms apparently feature a “space age” swivel chair, a cordless digital phone, high-speed internet access and a HP printer/copier/fax, which is hidden away within the trendy office desk (desk also features recessed power points and funky desk light).<BR><BR>The restaurant is of course very trendy with a menu which is a little too elaborate and for most travellers (think fusion meets nouvelle cuisine meets models who lunch fare and you will get the picture, or perhaps not!)<BR><BR>Ninezero was opened in June so there are a few things not quite right in the service and equipment dept, but these minor problems are common with a new hotel and should all be sorted by the fall.<BR><BR>If you try their web site: www.ninezerohotel.com you should get some Very good rates on their reservations systems. Ours was $199 for a large corner room overlooking the historic cemetery (nice!) with three large windows. <BR><BR>While we stayed at the hotel we found out that it is run by Destination Hotels and Resorts, who also own Cliveden, in the UK (Bill gates bought Cliveden in partnership with the Owners of Destination Hotels in 1998).

The Boston Globe had a great article about the preparations for opening this hotel in last Sunday's paper (Aug. 18), in the magazine section IIRC. The reporter followed key staff around in the final weeks before the hotel's opening. A very exciting saga ranging from staff hiring to designing the dishes to crowded elevators to fitting the toilet paper in the holders.
