Bostonians: Sunday night in North End?
 

My husband and I will be in Boston in 2 weeks. Would love to kick around the North End and find a great place to eat. Will a lot of the places be closed on Sunday night? Would it be better to do it on another night?

Also, can we just take our chances in finding a good place to eat ... or should we decide ahead of time and make reservations?

Most places are open on Sundays.

Other than Joe tecce's, not sure of any others that take reservations.

Plan to arrive a bit early and stroll; eventually you'll pass a place that will draw you in.

save time and room for dessert; grab a canoli at Mikes and do a bit more strolling.

I LOVE Joe Tecce's. Haven't been for there for years - we live in Ohio and last time we tried to go it was for lunch and it was closed. Glad to hear it's still in business. We'll be in Boston for Thanksgiving and hopefully we'll make it there then!

Please don't go to Joe Tecce's. Its so touristy. Its not bad but there are so many other places. Try walking down Hanover and Salem Streets and see what strikes your fancy. Mama Maria's and 5 North Square get good reviews but there are many others too.

Another good site is http://www.phantomgourmet.com which covers the Boston area as well as others. Over the years we have enjoyed most every place we have tried in the North End. This time of year you should do OK without reservations. Besides it is nice to take the time to stroll around the North End.

Most resturants in the North End are open on Sundays and most do not take reservations but let me give you my two favorites, Catch of the Day and Giacommos. Both are very small ten tables max and there is usually a wait but it is worth the wait!

I agree that strolling around and picking one out that looks interesting is half the fun of the North End. One bit of advice - choose the ones with lots of people in them - there's a reason for that! I think Sunday night is almost as busy as Saturday night.

I live about 25 min. north of Boston, and when my fiance and I go into the North End, we ALWAYS eat at L'Osteria, it's wonderful. And, we always follow it up with cheesecake from Mike's Pastry!

Joe Tecce's may have become touristy, but that's 'cause it's good and highly recommended. My parents used to go there when they were dating and they are now in their 60's. Last time we were there Joe gave us a personal tour and we almost the only ones in there - it didn't seem a bit touristy to me!!
