Boston - what to do post-Seminar
 

I will be in Boston for a 4 day Seminar. Staying at the Westin Copley. Any advice on what a (happily married) girl can do for fun on her free time? The seminar ends at 5 everyday and has 1.5 hour lunches. Restaurant, site-seeing or shopping recomendations would be appreciated. Thanks!

bring your walking shoes, walk the Charles, the waterfront, all the neighborhoods, Gardner museum, aquarium, Harvard Square, Fenway Park

Shop Newbury St - sit out at a sidewalk cafe and people watch., go to the Museum of Fine Arts- take the Green Line down Huntington. Take a peek inside the Boston Public Library - its beautiful inside - its on Boylston 1 street over from your hotel.<BR><BR> Don't bother with Quincy Market - its just a tourist trap. But in that vicinity you can get a good view of the harbor by walking behind the Boston Harbor Hotel and over to the Marriott LongWharf.

don't forget to walk some of the Freedom Trail - check out Paul Revere's house and the Old North Church. While you're at it, buy a "lobster tail'' at Mike's Pastry on Hanover St. in the North End!

A suggestion for a daylight walk if you have time while it's still light out:<BR><BR>When walking up newbury street, it'll end at Arlington St at the Public Garden. Take a walk through the Garden's paths if it's still daylight, then work your way to the left and walk down St Charles st and then explore Beacon Hill. Then if you still have time, take the footbridge over Storrow Drive and walk on the Esplanade.<BR><BR>Newbury Street might be a better place to stroll and window shop after dark, because it's well lit and there are lots of people around.<BR><BR>If you get stuck in bad weather, the Westin Copley is connected to the Copley Shops, and indoor mall..which in turn is connected by an indoor catwalk to the Prudential Shops. There are also many restaurants in the Copley area and all up and down newbury St.<BR><BR>And finally, if you find yourself in the North End, go to Modern Pastry instead of (or in addition to) Mike's. Mike's is the larger shop and is more popular, but Modern is where the locals go, because it's better.

Just a word of caution - be careful walking alone in the North End. Since May there have been 8 attacks on women walking alone - usually after midnight but one last night was at 10:45pm. The woman who was attacked followed the recommendations of the police by screaming very loudly and drew the attention of other people in the area and they chased off the attacker. These attacks are weird b/c this area generally is considered one of the safest neighborhoods in Boston. No reason to avoid the area but just keep your wits about you.
