A lawsuit accuses Uber of charging travelers $8.75 EACH WAY for trips to Logan Airport.

I hate Uber, so many of those startup CEOs just make you want to call the police. Their fine print says the $8.75 fee covered other things than the MASSPORT fee, however, I'm sure that is their defense. However, then it would be false labeling or something. Except they think they are above the law, in general. I hope they get sued big time.

1) An Uber to the airport is still cheaper than a taxi. It is more pleasant too.

2) The commercial toll (I assume they pay a commercial toll) is over $5. Knowing that they aren't guaranteed a return fare, I have no trouble paying for it.

At most, it is something like an extra buck or two and I think quibbling about a buck when you are already getting a deal is gauche.

I tried to use Uber in Boston last week, but he never showed up. I ended up taking a cab.

"Uber is cheaper".

What happened to the usual "you get what you pay for"?

It is undone by the absurdly restricted taxi medallions in Boston. You pay more for a cab, not for quality, but because a medallion costs around $500k. That's a lot of overhead that doesn't benefit the consumer in any way. It is strictly a barrier to entry meant to enrich the initial owners of medallions. It is why taxi rates in Boston are pretty much the highest in the country.

Uber (even UberX) in Boston is markedly better than a cab.

Uber operations in Nevada have been suspended by court injunction.
