You should get a 1-week T pass rather than loading money on a regular Charlie card. You can buy the passes at any T station. If you plan to ride the subway, bus, and/or inner harbor ferry 9 or more times, you save by doing that. The pass is $15, and 9 rides @ $1.70 is $15.30. You will have 6 rides just going into Boston and back from your hotel! |

Oops, sorry, I misread your question....

should we do the sam adams brewry tour if we have time?
Brewery Tours are always fun. Not sure how accessible it is without a car though.
Before / After your Celtics game, go to the Boston Beer Works. Its on Canal St next to the Garden. Great beer and good food. There is also one next to Fenway if you want after your Stadium Tour. Or go to the Cask n Flagon. |
I agree that the Sam Adams brewery tour might be tough without a car but there's also a Harpoon brewery tour in Boston, accessible by public transportation, that you might look into:

is it a easy walk from the boston garden to union oyster house and what has your experiences or views on the resturant?
?
dang... i just looked at the ten day forecast and jan,29 is expecting snow showers in boston......hopefully we dont get delayed at LAX. that would through our plans off alittle bit.. but im being optimistic!
Its too far out to be concerned about it. It will change before then
Concerning the Union Oyster House, well, I'm not a fan of their food. I've eaten there twice in the last few months with out of town guests who wanted to eat there. Both times the food wasn't very good and, sadly, even the oysters were pretty bad. The restaurant has great atmosphere, however, so drop in for a drink but do yourselves a favor and if you want seafood head to Legal Seafoods instead. There are a few locations sprinkled all over the city.
P.S. I agree that it's MUCH too early to start worrying about the weather. Just be prepared for anything.
You can get to the Sam Adams brewery on the T. It's a few blocks to walk and well worth the tour/tasting.
Visit Union Oyster House for a drink and oysters only. Sit in the oyster bar if possible. There are tons of great restaurants in Boston -- don't waste time in a chain. In the North End, go to Massamino's -- food like my great grandmother used to make. Visit a bakery to p/u dessert. Near Boston Common, on Charles St., go to The Upper Crust for a slice of pizza. Thin, crispy crust with fresh ingredients. Right around the corner is the Bull N Finch Pub (Cheers). For Irish fare, visit Kinsale Pub across the street from City Hall. Isabella Gardner Museum is great and accessible via the T. The USS Constitution is interesting if you like history, as is the North Church. Visit the JFK library in Copley Square. Stroll Newbury St for high-end shops/boutiques. Go to the Black Rose near Faneuil Hall for Irish music. Take a commuter rail to Salem for the day. Have fun! |
