Boston - Tomb - 5wits How was it?

Has anyone out there been to the 5wits Tomb thing in Boston? Would it be appropriate and fun for 3 boys, 11,9, & 9? Thanks for any opinions.

I had no idea what you were talking about so I googled it. In Boston have neither seen nor heard ads for this - is it that new?

I think I saw an ad for wht you are talking about some time last year. It was located on Brookline Ave, I think....but haven't heard anything about it in a long time.

Looks pretty cool, but I had never heard of it either. Of course, I have a 2 year old, so I don't get out much anymore, except to the park, zoo, etc. According to their web-site, they claim that they tailor the experience for each group, but that parents should use caution for kids 7 and under.

Please report back if you go....

What is it? My curiosity is piqued. I am w/gail in never having heard of it...and also I have no clue as to what it even might be!!

I'd never heard of it either, right here in Boston in the fenway on Brookline ave no less....the web site looks interesting, and tickets certainly aren't inexpensive...if you go you have to let us know what it was like...I have cousins who visit about that age and would love to know from someone who has been.

oh, duh, just realized how old this post is !
Scarboroughmom did you go? what was it like?

scarboroughmom, the OP, is the one who topped it just a couple of days ago. This is the rare case where it might still be worthwhile to reply to an old topic!

So why is it that none of us who live in Boston have heard of this? Are we sure it exists?

kybourbon Sep 13th, 2006 09:08 PM

My daughter has been, but I think she went because she goes to MIT and an MIT student (MIT mechanical engineering undergrad and Harvard MBA) invented the Tomb. She thought it was fun, but said not as much as she expected it to be. She also said you were likely to encounter people drinking the later you went because many students think it's more fun that way.

Yes, I saw the web page it exists !! We need a fodorite review....or maybe that is the perfect place for another Fodors GTG in Boston and we could get a group price and investigate why so many of us who are in Boston or the area never heard of it until now....gee, you learn so much on Fodors !

I just had a mini-gtg in Boston and couple of weeks ago with Cigalechanta (Mimi and Jerry), but there is an official one scheduled Oct. 7.

Tomb is being featured on the Travel Channel tonight on the show Kids in Charge.

escargot Sep 14th, 2006 06:55 PM

I am still trying to change plans to be able to get to that 10/7 gtg, but it isn't looking like that will happen.....ahhhh! so frustrating.....hope there's another one soon.

I have not gone to it yet. The website looks interesting, but it seems odd that I haven't ever run into anyone who has been there. I only live about 2 hours outside of Boston. There are only a small number of reviews on tripadvisor, and I always tend to discount one or two glowing reviews as being done by owners or managers. We are going to Boston for the weekend in a few weeks, and I don't know if we are going to do it or not. I still have no feel for whether it is suitable for my kids. I would still be interested in hearing more about it. If I do go, I will post about it.

There were 3 kids on the travel channel show with the youngest about 7. He got scared and had to leave, but the older ones had fun. You have to solve puzzles/sequences etc. to get from one chamber to the next. I think it would best suit older elementary and middle school kids.
