Does anyone know details to go to New York City, Hard Rock Cafe area and Statue of Liberty on the commuter rail then subway?

IF you're coming from Boston, you'd take Amtrak, not a commuter line. Once you get off at Penn Station, just take the subway down to Battery Park for the Statue of Liberty.<BR>Hard Rock Cafe? With all the many wonderful things to do, is that really at the top of your list?

If Amtrak shuts down on Wednesday, as has been in the news lately, commuter trains may have to be a consideration. And I don't know how you'd get from the Providence area, where the Boston commuter trains end, and the New London area, where the New York commuter trains begin. It would not be simple, in any case.<BR><BR>But Hard Rock is easy. It's on 57th street between Broadway and Seventh, I believe, so from Penn Station you'd take the "Red" line uptown to 59th and walk a couple of blocks.

The MBTA commuter rails lines that serve Boston are operated under contract to Amtrak. If Amtrak folds, the commuter rail won't run either. Take the bus.

Drive to New Haven and take the Metro Noth.

If Amtrak folds, Metro North won't run either and nor will NJ Transit, nor will many SEPTA lines in Philadelphia and nor will MARC in Maryland nor VRE in Virginia. I believe I read they're all under contract. If the government does not intervene, rush hour in the northeast on Wednesday is not going to be pretty.

Go to the Hard Rock on Dartmouth St in Boston and close by is an Amtrak train station which you can jump on, travel four hours and then eat in the Hard Rock on 57th st. Go back to Boston and tell your friends what a changed man you are after such a unique New York experience...

Not hard to see the cynicism in some of the above posts regarding both Amtak and Hard Rock. Don't really have much to add about Amtrak, but when I lived on Oahu, not far from the Honolulu Hard Rock, I regularly gave directions to people who had made a goal of getting a Hard Rock T-Shirt from every city they visited. <BR><BR>Not among my personal travel goals, but why be judgemental? I know people who travel thousands of miles for a sports event or to see a specific performer. And some of the "Must Do's" I see on this board wouldn't interest others in the least .
