Boston to JFK by car - tips?

Hi,

On Memorial Day, May 30th, I need to drive my daughter from Wakefield, MA to JFK airport. Does anyone have a suggested route. We need to arrive at JFK by 3 PM.

Many thanks,
Bonnie

Memorial Day weekend, is going to be very busy on the road. I would check mapquest for probably the best directions and LEAVE EARLY, so you may miss some traffic and allow extra time
for some heavy traffic on the LIE (Long Island Expressway).

There are a bunch of different routes you can take. The problem is that it will be hard to determine the best one until the day - since as well as consruciton you need to allow for holiday weekend traffic delays.

I think you need to allow at least 5 hours for the trip - and possibly more to be sage.

Wouldn;t it be easier/cheaper/faster and much less anxious making for everyone for her to just take the shuttle to LGA and then the 20 minute bus to JFK?

In general, this will be the preferred route.

-I95S to I-90, Mass Pike W
-Mass Pike to I-84S through Hartford & Danbury, to I684 just over the boarder in Brewster, NY
-I684 runs into Hutchinson Pkwy to Whitestone Bridge
-After the Whitestone Bridge, follow signs for NY Airports, then JFK.

From the I84/I684 Brewster interchange, expect it to take ~75min to JFK. It can run longer - especially if there is traffic in NYC. From that point I've made it to the long term parking lot in as short as 60min or as long as 90min.

Or for $170 one way non-stop fare on AA you could drive the 15 miles to Logan.

After you get off the Whitestone Bridge take the Van Wyck Expressway right to the airport.

Thanks for all your ideas. On Memorial Day morning, do you think 84 is better than taking 91S from Hartford to the parkway - rt. 15 I think- which we often take to the Hutchinson?

Thanks to all for your help. We left Boston early and got to JFK with very little traffic.
