Boston/Three Cities Immediately South...
 

I saw this post, I think last year, but I can't find it. <BR> <BR>What are the three cities/towns that have motels or hotels just immediately south of Boston? In order from North to South please. <BR>Wasn't it, Worcester, Newton and Braintree, the last being the third closest to the south of Boston?

heading out of Boston on the mass pike, which is west-bound, there are many hotels in cambridge(ok technically they are on memorial drive, back to my mass pike theory)....first you see the doubletree suites which is probably in Allston, then a marriott above the highway in Newton, then further out a Sheraton Tara in Framingham <BR>i know you asked about south of boston, BUT then you mentioned Worcestor and Newton, which are not south of boston at all. <BR>hope i helped.

Braintree is south of Boston and has most of your typical chain motels. Heading west out of Boston, the hotel over the highway is a Sheraton.NExt comes the Marriott at the intersection of the Pike and I-95. Then Natick, then Worcester. If you're looking to stay in Suburbia, I'd check out the Holiday Inn-Newton, located at the Riverside "T" station and just off I-95.

Also, Worcester is around an hours drive from Boston, and is not the most charming city in New England. There is almost no circumstance in which someone visiting boston should stay in Worcester. <BR> <BR>Going south of Boston there is roughly Quincy then Braintree then Weymouth. Roughly. If I were looking to stay in a cheap (for Boston, around $70+ a night) chain, I'd stay in the Motel 6 by the Quincy stop on the T (subway). The ride into Boston will be about 30 to 45 minutes I'd say. Check the MBTA site for specifics - I think they have timetables there... <BR> <BR>As per above Newton and Worcester are basically due west of Boston.

I think I have my N/S/E/W all mixed up. What I mean to say is, if I'm driving FROM Connecticut...what are the three closest cities to Boston starting from the furthest to the closest. Again, I don't like to assume, but I assummed that that would be south as I was going TOWARDS Boston. Sorry for not making myself clearer. Can anyone help please? Again, going towards Boston from Connecticut, what are the three cities closest to Boston and you name the order. Thank you.

Well, to confuse you even further (sorry!!) there are couple ways you could be coming from CT. If you come up I-84 from Hartford to I-90, first you'd hit Worcester, then Framingham/Natick, then Newton. If you come up I-95 from New London/Providence, first you'd come to Dedham then Newton. Or, if you take the I-93 exit off I-95, you'd go to Braintree. My best advice would be to take out a map and figure out which way you'll be coming, then look for hotels in the towns mentioned above. Bookstores have maps, I suggest you purchase a good one. There are several websites with driving info between points. How about the AAA? If you aren't a member, maybe you should join or find a friend with a membership. I kindly suggest that you yourself need to do more research. <BR>

I'm swimming in the dang things. There is no good map that I have that tells me in which order the cities come according to the routes. They mostly list the bigger cities. Nothing like Newton or Worcester. Can someone suggest a map please?

Boy, you really do need a map if the one you're using doesn't have Worcester (the 2nd largest city in New England) on it. <BR>You could order one from amazon.com, bn.com, see one online at mapquest.com or get a free vacation magazine from massvacation.com. The Rand McNally USA road atlas is usually all I need for interstate travel.

Jerry, <BR> <BR>If you are comimg up from Connecticut on 95, just as you pass Providence you will hit the mAssachusetts line. Just past te intersection of 95 and Interstate 495, you will hit Foxboro. Just off the next exit (RT140) you will hit an industrial park with a Red Roof it it. The place is newer, quiet, surrounded by trees, safe, complimentary bkfst, and a cheap 49-59 bucks. I stay there a lot on work travel and find it better than the nearby Courtyard which is about twice the price.
