boston suggestions with 13 year old
 

my husband and 13 year old daughter will be spending a few days in boston at the end of august.
they already have tix to the red sox.
any suggestions of other activites?
any neighborhoods to check out?

blue man group?
where does it play?

Blue Man Group is at the Charles Playhouse in the theater district. They have several shows a week. Tickets run between $48 and $58 a person, even at the matinee. But of course it's a very cool show.

If they have an opportunity to go to Plymouth, your daughter would probably really enjoy Plimoth Plantation.

What does your 13 yr old daughter enjoy?
The possibilities are endless -
has she ever been before? does she like walking around? history? museums? shopping?

Some ideas might be:
The Duck Tour (a good overview and fun)

The view from the Prudential Skywalk and it has a history overview exhibit - nice on a clear day or night

Walking some of the Freedom Trail ?

look at the map/walking area and they can do the parts that appeal to them, stopping along the way for lunch, ice cream, etc. Or at least through Boston Common, Boston Public Gardens area.

The harbor area - also possible tour on boats thru boston harbor, or out to george's island or spectacle island

Dinner at the North End at night and walking around a bit afterwards for dessert and also seeing Old North Church, Paul Revere's house, etc

If she likes shopping, the Pru shops, Copley Place, Faneuil Hall, walking Newbury St - eating outside at Parish cafe on Boylston or Stephanie's on Newbury St

She might like Fire and Ice for dinner, teenagers enjoy it there.

If she hasn't seen Blue Man Group, she would likely love that for a fun night -

I agree with the Blue Man Group (even if my husband didn't like it) and other suggestions. The North End is almost an adventure in Europe. On Fri and Sat there are also pushcart vendors in Haymarket Square you can walk thru on your way to cross the street over to the North End. Mostly fresh produce (a good chance to pick up some fresh fruit for the room) and a good example of how some people don't shop at traditonal grocery stores. There's a little corner market that sells lemon slush. The machine is hanging by the front door (sorry I can't remember the name).
The Boston Museum Science also has a laser show and an IMAX theater. Check to see what's playing. Might be good evening activity beside Blue Man Group. Use the subway. Walk thru China Town, maybe have a dim sum lunch if their adventurous (my friends weren't). This is a great opportunity to be in a big city and find out that not everyone speaks England or that some people speak more than one language (she'll hear Italian in the North End). And a good chance to learn to use public transportation (I've been to other big cities where my travel companions had never been on a subway before.)
